UPDATE!!! I fixed it (details on last post)!!!

have a '93 vert with a 5 speed swap. swap was done over 4 years ago, and top was working good...

yesterday all of a sudden the top stopped working.... thus i went to the FSM and this forum found some info, but feel real stupid.... need some help.

1. looked at the two 20A fuses... looked ok2. second on the FSM list were the ground points.... only found one of them. (M125 - this one was pretty easy - its in the trunk under the latch on the inside right?)

I also found the second one (M116) thats behind the seatback.... no clue on the third one.

3. I was skipping down to the relays.... this is where i feel real stupid... where are they? looked at the driver and pass side fuse boxes in the engine room, and couldn't figure it out... help pls..4. inhibitor switch - i figure it was done right when i had it done years ago, but figured out it was worth a look. is this it?

help is appreciated....

Remove back seat. You will see some wiring and relays are there.

this again makes me sound like a noobie - but i was never really able to remove the seats completely (even when i put the coilovers in which was the biggest pita)... the bottom bolts were easy, but the top brackets - are they supposed to slide upwards?

They are two knobs you have to pull forward under the seat and lift the seat. Two bolts to remove as you said, and yes slide it upward to remove it.

is it common for this to be rusted in there?

Haha! Yes and you can paint it with Rustoleum pain from Home Depot. It'll look much better. Who was the memer did that to his car and posted pics? Red vert that used to have Kosei wheels? I have to paint mine too.

well i finally got my top up.... (i guess my title was wrong) ac is running cause it is HOT here in los angeles the last few days.

couldn't fix the wiring, so i hotwired the pump to one of those jump starter batteries.... did the trick beautifully.

now i have to find the gremlin over the weekend... sucks..

and there are like 20 different relays back there all taped up... is that how it is supposed to look? (well maybe not 20...) are they generic ones that I can get at any car parts store? if so which one?

ok .... so here's my update...

1. finally got the seatback off... yea---

2. here's why i had so much trouble taking it off... that thing was so bent inwards, that it made it almost impossible to take off... i got the driver's side off first, and finally figured out that it was bent, so i took a flathead and sort of bent it forward and success! i think i need to paint some rust inhibitor or something on top of this stuff....

3. testing relays... i tested the three on the driver's side.... these were easy - took out a similar 5 prong one from the engine bay and replaced them.... but the found out in the fsm that they are most likely the rear quarter window relays.... crap.

so i'm betting its this one.

now here's a bit of trivia.... looked this up and it is identical to a 1993 SATURN SW2 door lock relay. around $30-35 at kragens.... going tom to see if they have on in the store. the part is called 'VBA-1002" links below...

http://shop.oreillyauto.com/pr...Set=Ah ... o...-1002/

wish me luck....

(btw i still can't find the 'inhibitor' thing... is it that pic i posted above? anyone?)

anyone have photos of what it SHOULD look like?

update is that i got the part (relay for the 1993 Saturn SW), and no dice....

puzzled...

questions...1. can anyone tell me where the inhibitor switch is? i'm having a real hard time looking for it...

2. are there TWO relays for the top? i saw that 6 prong thing in the back, but according to the FSM, there is another one? in the front? (I relooked this diagram and my car - is this saying that there is a relay in the driver's side relay box under the hood? if so I don't think its labeled.... i was thinking it could be the 'FOG' relay, since the verts dont have them, but there is no relay physically there... LOST... help pls)

ok so I think I looked at every wiring diagram and followed it step by step....

spent about 2 hours looking for my multimeter... couldn't find it so went out and got one...

1. grounds checked out...2. 6 prong 'top stack' relay in the back - grounds good3. top stack relay 12V check with buttons pressed.... BAD

so i keep checking for connectivity and so forth.... and found the problem...

my mechanic had a relay between the O/D light on the dash (I think its the O/D light... but maybe its connected to some thing else on the other side...) and the E-brake and there was one of those crappy wire splitters which basically ate through the cable.... O/D light wasn't really doing anything so I crimped the wires together, and SUCCESS!!!

spent a total of $38 dollars at the stealership, and $25 for the multimeter, and top is FINALLY working.

about time, as it is REALLY HOT in los angeles right now...

so my story?

1. read the FSM line by line2. don't cut corners, be a geek and get the multimeter.3. don't just go out and buy parts that you don't need...4. enjoy the top down whenever possible
