Ok I know this has been posted numerous times, but can anyone show or tell me exactly how this 'wooden wedge of grace' works? I get that you wedge it into the guides and whatnot, so you keep the cam sprocket on there too? Anyone have any pictures from them doing this job? I will say I'm a 'hobby mechanic' and I'm stuck right now as to how to get the tensioner, chain on so I can put the timing cover on. Please help, any help.

Insert wood down in chain until it is wedged. The timing chain cannot move off the crankshaft sprocket or the front cover will need to be removed to line up the chain properly.7. Ok well I've already removed the timing cover, I'm trying to figure out how to get the chain on with the tensioner so I can then put the cover back on, and I'm guessing, slide the head back on. So do I wedge the wood in with the tensioner in there and do pretty much what I said? If so how do remove the wood and put the cam sprocket in and keep tension all at the same time? Please help

Well if you already took the timing cover off, the wedge of grace is kind of just an extra hand if you need it for a second.

The wedge is for taking the head off and putting it back without taking off the timing cover, so if you marked the timing right and relative chain to sprocket markings and whatnot, then you can remove the sprocket and the head without the chain slipping the lower sprocket, cuz once that happens YOU HAVE TO take off the timing cover and reset set it altogether, but it's really best to do that anyway, if you have the wedge, it savse time assuming all other components are known to be okay, so this would best be served if you had a cracked exhaust valve, just to save time only.

Alot of tensioners have a pin hole,if so. grab a thumbtack, push back the tensioner until you can slide in the tack.

Set your timing and when you want tension, remove the tack.

Other than that fight it until it works, they aren't usually to hard to mess with.
