WHERE DOES THIS GO?

I was told by 2 rwd ca18det owners (one silvia and one 240sx the canadian silvia)that it connects tothe aac valve and idle solenoid valves.

Also as pic #2and#3 will show, i believe it connects to the charge pipe of the turbo.

pic #1

What i need to know is, on my fwd conversion, it faces away from the rest of the engine... I was told by rwd owners I can plug it, because it is a vaccume.

Pic #2 and #3

Help !?!?!?!?

It goes from the cold pipe to the iacv, you can plug it but your car most likely won't idle if you do.

thankyou guys for answering that, i been trying to chase it too. When we made my intake piping, we didn't know if it was a breather or not, so we just plumbed it back in anyways.

Excellent.

No, you can't put a breather on it. You can either run it to the cold pipe or plug it. But, if you plug it you will need to adjust your throttle plate to stay open a little all the time so the car will idle.

BECAUSE it is a vacuum/boost SOURCE. YOU CANNOT PUT A BREATHER ON IT.

Untrue. This is the reason why my car has such a ****ty start. I didnt have a nipple on my intake to hook this up to so I couldnt do it. I will be doing it with my new setup though. Do not forget to install one!

strange... cory i thought you said at one point that plugging that had no effect on the quality of *your* idle... guess i was wrong..

its just weird that a few different ca18dets owners would give such different responses...

nico is the only place so far that has said 100% ... dont plug it...

and i tend to trust nico the most :>

thx guys

We didn't say not to plug it, we said not to put a breather on it. If you plug it and adjust your idle with the throttle plate instead of the iacv you should be fine, Ive seen a few people do that with CA's before.

I plugged mine up, but trying to start it in the morning is hell, but once it's warmed up, it's fine.

i replaced my old iacv adjusted the new one and it starts up with much less hesitation but thats what I did. I dont recall ever saying to block it off, since it does only have the 1 3/8" hose. It must have been another hose coming off the intake. Keeping in mind that I did remove all my emission regulator stuff so I only needed some of the nipples on my intake for my FPR, BOV, Butterfly valve, wastegate, and brake booster.

plus, its metered air going out of the intake pipe if you did put a breather

Adjusting the throttle stop is only wise if you are prepared to adjust the TPS everytime you tweak the idle.

I have to do this with my aftermarket ECU, because I removed the AAC/FICD/idle adjustment block from my intake plenum.Idle is slightly more complicated on a turbo engine, because both sides of the throttle body are pressurized under boost.

In a cold environment, using the throttle stop may also increase the chance of icing the throttle plate closed (take note: canadian winter drivers). Although if you have the throttle body water lines still connected, then there is a reduced chance of that I suppose.

Cheers,

Chris
