Help! There is a metal rod sticking out underneath by the drivers side

I just got an oil change and I came home to notice this rod sticking out. I called them up and he told me to bring the car in so he can look at it but the place is on the other side of town and I would rather not waste the gas money so he told me to go to a local auto place and have them tell me what it is and then call him back. Does anyone know what the metal rod is and if I can just fix it myself?

Okay, it turns out it's the hood. The guy must have jarred it loose. I will try to reconnect it.
