I need the help of the great Nico minds once again.

While I was putting the metal-Y back in, I cracked one of the flanges. The one that is one the driver side.

My question is.What should I do? There are two options that I can think of. I called Joe and the part is about $60

A. Replace it with a new one. orB. I could have it welded back together.

I am wondering, will welding it back together be ok? Will the aluminum warp? Will it significantly weaken the metal? It's aluminum, correct?

Here's a picture of it.

You don't want to have to go back in there, spring for a new one.

Ya, I am leaning towards just buying a new one.

But, does anybody know what will happen if I or a "professional" welds it back together?

Is anybody a metalurgist here? Will it significantly weaken the metal? It's aluminum, correct? Will the aluminum warp?

From a welding supplier site Quote »Even for those experienced in welding steels, welding aluminum alloys can present quite a challenge...[/quote]

Think of it this way...

You weld it, and it doesnt LOOK like you warped it, but when you get it back on you found it warped enough to leak just a little.....

Once you get it like that, you will wish you had bought a new one..... hell go junkyard hunting for an old Q engine (with broken guides?) and pull one out of there.....

I was thinking about that too. But I don't think you guys or the owner would like the way that I would remove it.

I would take a gas hatchet and cut the plenum into pieces . Then I could probably remove it in about 15 minutes.

What would it cost at a junkyard? $10 probably? That would be if I removed it myself. Now if they removed it for me, they would probably want ~$25~$40.

Wes How much do you want for the part? I could probably wait 2~4 more weeks to get it.
