I snapped my rear sway bar. It happened last night. I heard a boom but when I looked (at the front of my car) I didn't see anything. I drove to my fiance's house and we drove her car today. Coming home I saw metal hanging from my car so I looked and it was a broken rear sway bar. I know the car can be driven without a rear sway bar no problem (just wont corner as well).

Will Nissan cover it? I have 51,xxx miles and less then 5 years old. I also have Eibach springs. since the car is lowered, will that affect the warranty?

I dont want to take off the broken sway bar and have Nissan say since I took it off, it's no longer covered. here are pics

here is a pic of my car going into the driveway. you can see how it could cause strain on the rear sway bar

I doubt Nissan will cover this. The Eibachs would directly affect the sway bar, so they would probably use this to get out of paying for it. What you could do is swap in the stock springs before you take it in. They would have no way of knowing.

Yeah, what andy just said... either swap or pay for a Stillen or Racingline sway bar. It's a worthwhile upgrade.

:ohsnap (pun inteanded) lol.. but really :iws: they most likely wont cover it, but switching them out and taking it to the dealer would work, unless you are paying someone to uninstall and reinstall them, then its time for a stillen or racingline upgrade :dblthumb:

Yeah, the fee to remove the springs would exceed the aftermarket sway bar cost. :)

IF Nissan would replace them with the stock springs, I might just swap out the rear springs lol the front ones are a PIA but the rear ones are just 2 bolts per side. but maybe they'll say something about the front being lowered and the rear not being lowered

well you could try that but if they say something then just upgrade, but i wouldnt pay for all the springs to be replaced twice just so you can get a free oem sway bar

ya. I mean I lowered the car myself and the rear is SUPER EASY to change. But I'll probably just order a new sway bar if they say no.

The only reason why I'm hesitating is because my wedding is in exactly 2 weeks, so money is sort of tight right now. but my fiance told me to just go ahead and order a stillen or racingline sway bar....

I remember some member thought the stock suspension was too stiff but wanted a lowered car so they lowered the front and took off the RSB and put 180 pounds in the trunk to make the back lower. So I know I can drive the car without the RSB until I get a new one. but am I supposed to take off the rear endlinks too? because wouldn't they just be hanging there if there was no RSB for them to hook up to?

I've been searching for the thread where the guy took off his RSB and put 180 pounds in the trunk, but I can't find it. so If someone could help me (with a link please) or just let me know if I should take off the rear endlinks when I take off the sway bar.... If I get the racingline RSB I'll have to go about a month without a RSB.

Go straight to the dealer to replace it. For some reason, on my 4th gen I also snapped my sway bar (still dnt knw how) but it was covered by the warranty. It was actually a recall that they had going on back in 2008 over sway bars breaking for unknown reasons so try the dealer if you dnt want to buy another one.

You can drive without the sway bar, but don't drive too fast, and take curves and turns exceptionally slow. Take off the endlinks if they are just hanging loose.

If you go to the dealership, familiarize yourself with this case: http://www.impalaclub.com/naisso/magmoss.htm

Basically, the dealership has to prove that the aftermarket part: the Eibach springs in this case, caused the sway bar to fail.

Although the springs and the sway bar are related suspension items, it does not mean they caused it to fail. I'm not sure how this case would play out if the item was already prone to failure. If the 08 sway bars are under recall as el_blacky06 said - you're in good shape. Eibach springs should not cause a defect-free stock sway bar to fail. I would call Nissan Consumer Affairs and see if they can send you a new one without having to step foot into a dealership. They might do it if this is a known issue, but they might want a Nissan dealer to install it. I'd say it's worth a try.

If you have $150 to spend, I would suggest going with a Racingline sway bar. It has two adjustable settings.

The stock sway bar sells for about $100. I still have my stock one just taking up space, and I can let it go for real cheap. If you're interested, shoot me a PM.

so just as I thought, the warranty expired at 3 years or 36,000 miles... 5 years/60k miles is just for the engine. so it looks like I need to buy a new one.
