ok this is what happend....i was driving and all of a sudden my brake light and battery light came on i continued driving then they would flash about every 5 seconds. i figured i would keep driving a bit. so then i noticed my engine temperature go to high also the heat from the vents wasn't as hot. but still the engine temp was high. if u guys could help me out with this id appreciate it.

NEW NEWS

n e ways i came back from another drive and i noticed that the car seems bogged down when i hit the accelerator almost as if its choking. its not very responsive at all and when it is bogged down thats when the engine temperature goes up. also the parking light and the battery light continue to stay on and blink every 5 seconds.

but the radiator fluid in the holding tank didn't go down and there was no leak could it still be it?also could it be a bad thermostat?

if it were a bad thermostat, why would the other warning lights come on. and did you check all the radiator hoses? no battery or brake light came on in my bro's car tonight but they're obviously not the same situations. if i had to guess, i'd say a leak somewhere you can't see it or thermostat. I don't know why the other lights would come on though. Oh, and i gave you misinformation, the hose didn't come off, the leak was just very close to the hose so it looked like it was coming off. sorry.

Sounds like two problems...

1. Bad Alternator

My 200SX had the brake light and the battery light come on, its the ECUs way of determining excessively low or high alternator current I believe.

This would cause the car to feel sluggish if it weren't putting out enough amperage. It causes surging and other funny operations.

2. Fried Coolant Temp Sensor

Does the car actually overheat? Is there alot of coolant in the resevoir, as the coolant expands from the heat the pressure builds up in the radiator till 0.9 bar when the radiator cap opens and bleeds the pressure into the coolant resevoir.

i'd go w/ #1 problem... i've read many posts w/ both lights goin on to indicate a bad alt or wiring... when your car dies out, no coolant flow> heat rises>temp goes up...so your gauge may be ok

remove the alt & have it ''bench-tested" fo free @ the local parts store & let us know what u find... of course, the bad alt may also have killed your battery so get that tested next after the new alt install...

let us know what u find so we all can learn from your experiences... thanx:ylsuper
