just got into the 240 scene. i was with hondas for a while... but i picked up a 92 240 ka24det.. with a garret t25 and tuned with emance.. i know basicaly nothing about these and it currently wont start. we had it running fine but i guess my buddy said it had a vaccum leak. the guy before me (a close friend) put a new turbo on and seals and we got it running fine. then the other day he went to start it and wont fire? now i picked it up and its sitting in my driveway. any suggestions as to why it would do that? thanks for any help..

Yeah, I'd start lookin there. Poppin usually means a detonation, or backfire. Neither one is good for the engine, especially if its a turbo.

Well, you need timing light a piece of soapstone, and a buddy. On the harmonic balancer, there is a notch in it. Mark it with the soapstone, now get the timing light connect the clamps to the battery, and put clamp te inducer wire on spark plug wire #1. Get a buddy to turn over ignition, point the light at the harmonic balancer and see if the light flashes, when the white mark lines up with the timing mark on the timing cover.

if u smell fuel, its possible ur plugs are fouled. u will see spark when you plug out the plugs and leave them connected on your valve cover.(ground them to the valve cover bolts). i had this issue and changing the plugs to bosch platinums to start it worked fine for me. i have been running those for a week, now i will throw on some ngk coppers and see how it runs. change the oil too coz u dont want that fuel enriched oil circulating in the car. throw in some cheap oil in there to get it running and soak that fuel out. once it starts, time it and then change oil again before driving. there is an excellent article here about timing, just search for ignition timing ka24de. i used it and was dead on. good luck

A mod list can be very helpful!

Do you have fuel pressure readings? make sure u can get a hold of something to check the fuel pressure. There are possibilities of the engine flooding due to stuck open injectors, bad Fuel pressure regulator, or lack of fuel due to fuell line leakage...etc....and yes change your oil right away, dont want ur bearing to get f** up. If you already had the car running good before then its probably fuel problem. what were your AFR at?
