I'm new to the classic Z's. How much does one usually cost and how much does it cost to build one up.

depends on what you considder "calssic" and what your ideal of a "build" is, I bought and built this car for $2007, makes 315hp and 416 lbft at the wheel

I lost count, lots of money in htere, and I really don't wanna know

I like the 240Zs. I would prefer one rather then a 260 or a 280. The 240s are much lighter.

Well, if you are going with an S30, I'd put my money on it costing alot more than, say, a Z31. Mainly because of age, more worn out stuff. Second is that those cars are rust-happy little ****ers, so you might end up spending a hefty amount to fix it. Availability is another thing, since they are rarer than other Zs, and since rust-free ones are even rarer they will most likely be more expensive.

Beyond, look at replacement parts. Fenders, hoods, hatches, suspension parts, engine parts, brake components, interior panels... that will give you good knowledge of what costs what. Then you can use that knowledge when searching for an S30 to buy, and will know if it is worth paying more money for car B with X, Y, and Z in better condition than car A, or better to buy car A and fix it yourself. And that goes for pretty much any Z you look at. Oh, and be sure to look at both 2 seater and 2+2 parts and note any price differences.

That said, I know of an S130 turbo for sale locally. The guy wants too much for it ($4500 I think), but said feel free to make offers (he's been trying to sell it for a while). Brown paint, tan interior, gold wheels; looks to be in pretty good shape, but I can tell that it's been sitting outside since the interior is faded, and the hood vents he took off of the car and put in the hatch have been there a while. The carpet is white except for where the carpet was covered by the vents, then it is tan.

That's too much for me. lol

Personally though, I like the '70-'73 S30s but I'll get a Z31. They're pretty sharp too.

Well, I was at the strip last Thursday. One of the guys on a 'busa came up to me and my friend and said that he had a friend who was selling a red turbo one (we brought our Z31s). Said it was the 84-86 bodystyle, and described it as "mint". Said the guy wanted $1500 for it, and that he would be at the strip this Thursday. So if he shows, I'll check the condition of this "mint" Z31T. If it appears to be worth the money, I'll give you his contact info. You don't live that far from where I do, so he might be close enough to you for you to take a look at it.

in generaly the earlier cars are cheaper to build and maintain, no timing belts to worry with, a full header back mandrel bent exhaust can be had for under $200, thanks to sportmax and konig there are now affordable new wheel options, but when you get to extreme mod levels the cost skyrockets
