You will get many answers on this question and all could be right. For sure you want text to speech...it makes it much easier when making a left or right turn that you could pick one of two streets if you don't hear the name called out. You are going to hear arguments from lovers of each brand about how the others take you in circles. All GPS devices can do this. Read as many reviews as you can and remember for each brand and model some will love it and others hate it. Having used hand held GPS in the military and my job for years I had waited a long time to go for an auto GPS. I don't know how I got along without it. I have used mine and never gotten lost. It does on occasion take me on some weired routes...I have tested it thoroughly on roads and trips I know and why it chooses some routes the way it does I can't say...except that is the programming. Mine is a Magellan Maestro 4250....got it cheap and almost returned it before even opening the box. Had found one site that had horror stories about it. But had a 30 day return policy from TigerDirect and tried it out and updated the firmware and have had no problems with it after many hours of use...yes the blue tooth is not too good...did not buy it for that... and the screen could be brighter but I never experienced any of the horror stories some of the reviews said. I also tried a friends Garmin and it has its faults also...so decided to keep the Maestro 4250 as it was a good buy for the features. The selection is huge and more models come out each month it seems. I would suggest you try to buy from a Sams or Costco so a return would be no problem if you just don't like it.
