:help

I need help! I have a 91 Q45 I got the car at a car auction for $1,800. I had to replace the trany. The car runs grate but the active suspension leaks in the driver side rear. I live in Boise Idaho and the closest dealer is in Utah, is it difficult for a shop to replace them or should I even trust a local place to replace them. next problem the car was stollen from its original owner in Utah and it has no keys so I orderd new keys from the factory and they did not work, so I checked the vin and ordered one more time and they still did not work. will a ignition from a j20 work in my car or should I spend the $600 for a new key and lock set? One last problem the car leaks power steering fluid bad I can't tell where the leak is coming from becouse it only leaks if I turn sharp. the car sounds like I should dump it but it has a lot of work done to it and I love it. It has duel exhaust with oversized pipes and tips. It also has a full body kit with new paint. a full dvd system with 2 screens in the head rests.

First of all welcome to our site.Sounds like you are having some issues we need to help you police up with what is potentially a wonderful car..

It's a real shame about the keys not working, my guess is you have a diffrent lockset in there.

HI pressure Powerstering hoses are expensive but some memebrs have had success with locally made ones. ( I amsure someone will link you)

About the "a" suspension there are a couple of threads on this excat subject, which u can find in our "Infinti ONline Mechanic section".Does it have no keys at all?

How do u drive it?

Welcome to our site many otehrs will chime inb with helpful hints I am sure.

Fred...:)

It's very possible that the locksets were replaced at some point in the car's history. They were a common failure item. You may be able to get the service history from an Infiniti dealer (look up by VIN) but it has probably been archived. If so, there's a number you can call for Infiniti customer service and they can pull them for you. Another option is to take it to a good locksmith who can just rekey the locks for you to a new code and cut new keys. Tell them it uses "wafers" and they'll know what you're talking about... I had my ignition switch replaced at the dealer, and they were going to have it rekeyed to match the other locks on the car. Instead I said just give me the two new keys and then I had the driver's side door rekeyed at my expense just in case my remotes died.

The 90-96Q had a unique key so I don't think it's possible to put another type of lockset in.

You might also browse around for information on the following using the search button in the upper right corner of your screen. "timing chain guides" "transmission cooler" "first gear start" - since you just put in a new transmission you'll want to protect it as much as possible.

What type of transmission did you buy?

Welcome to NICO! The mods sound very interesting... you should post some pics!

"I need help! I have a 91 Q45 I got the car at a car auction for $1,800."

You purchased a license to spend $5,000 or more quickly. Active cars usually require another $3,000 to get right. Not meaning to sound negative but buying any 90-93 Q without a pre purchase expert testing and listing every fault......usually results in this.

We do dozens of prebuys per month.

The good news is you can buy new parts for 25% off list and junkyard takeoff parts even cheaper. Finding an expert with lots of Q experience maybe difficult. Nissan master techs can be trained with a FSM. But the active requires reading and re reading the 100 pages in the manual a dozen times.

modQ45:

I have a manual for a 91 Q I will let go for pretty cheap (it has some wear on the cover).

Good reading, and a necessity for ANY Q45 owner.

Welcome to NICO, we're here to help!

thank you for the help I would be very interested in the manual (AZhitman). can you email me your contact info so i can get the manual from you. I wish I would have looked back earlier I just flew in from PHX.

(PalmerWMD) when I got the car from my freind who has a dealers lic. whe pulled the ignition tumbler out of the counsel and pulled the back section out that actually starts the car moved it to the side of the callum and put it back to geather. The bad news is any one can steal it, good think I live in Idaho where there is not a lot of car thieves.

I hope your a DIYer, because if you are this is a great way to save TONS of money......

The Q isnt per-se a hard car to work on, but everything is packed together tightly so its very time consuming......

Ive done Tstat, diff oil, radiator flush, PS fluid, spark plugs, and lots more, and I figured I saved 1000 if I would have taken it to an independent guy.......

Get the manual from Hitman, its key reading, and he's been desperate to sell it..... :D

My power steering lines were all loose, when I got my car. I tightened them up, and put in some STP stop-leak, and it was fine. Lucas makes a better stop leak, but I could not find one locally. This is the cheapest way to fix a PS leak, unless you have a ruptured hose, or the ruber is seeping.
