alright.. let me ask this...

this is my situation... first, a couple weeks ago.. the car started idling badly.. after running for a while and stopped.. the car would start reving up/down and would shut down..

secondly.. a couple days ago the engine light came on..

thus far i have done a tune up (plugs, wires, rotor, cap, fuel filter) cleaned the throttle with those cleaners... well the car was running very rich.. the plugs were filthy.. so now to get the light to turn off, i was told i had to pull out the ecu fuse.. but i don't even know where this is.. (or if it has one)...

from doing a search on old post.. i'm not sure if i also need to change the O2 sensor... ? is the engine light suppose to go out by itself after everything is fixed.. or do i need to reset the ecu?

thanks for any help..

ok, first the ecu is on the passenger side kick panel. you need to remove the ecu so you can get to the diagnostic screw on the side of the ecu(dont unplug anything, just twist it around till you can get to the screw.) Next, with the key turned to the ON postition, turn the screw clockwise till it stops, wait about 1 second and turn it back to its original position(counterclockwise). After doing this, watch the check engine light, count the number of times that it flashes and that is the malfunction code, it will flash slow for the first number and then faster for the secound number. After you read teh code, repeat the steps of turning the diagnostic screw to return the ecu to normal setting, Write the code down and post it in this thread and i will check it in my service manual for you.

If ya have any trouble the are several write ups in the FAQ page of 240sx.org

Ummm......no. 16 is a OBDI code, he has a 97 so its OBDII which uses a 4 number malfunction code. An example would be....0102....which is the MAFS malfunction code. Check the code again and watch it very closely. The first set of flashes will be the first two digits in the code, the light will pause very briefly and flash again giving the last two digits of the code......ex. if it flashes9 times then 8 more a lil faster then the code is 0908- coolant temp circut.
