Hi:

I'm a 45 year old newbie...

I have an 03 midnight blue i35 sedan. I have 3 month 17s chrome rims that I want to sell to purchase 18s and run flat tires. I have tinted windows, spoiler and rain guards.

What can I do to livin' the car up without going broke?

Thanks,

Jeff

A y pipe and an intake will do wonders.

Y-pipe and intake really don't help that much on the I35 (same as the 5.5-gen Maxima).

If you want N/A mods, then I suggest putting headers on for the most hp gains. Opening up the factory intake will give you a free boost as well. Intake is maybe 5hp, catback maybe 2hp, UDP may free up another 5hp and headers up to 30hp (per Fezzik dyno). Y-pipe alone is only a couple hp increase.

You can get great products from http://www.sportcompactonly.com. Call Steve and let him know you are a NICO member for the best pricing.

Any of the performance and suspension components for the 02-03 Maxima will also fit your I35.

Lets see, in my case:

Suspension:- Eibach Pro-kit springs: $210- Tokico Illumina's: $410

Engine:- UnderDrive pully (RVM): $115- Injen Intake: $189

Exhaust:- Warpspeed Y-pipe + B-pipe: $365

I do not suggest anyone use the Warpspeed Y-pipe.

I believe headers are somewhere between $500-700 (includes the y-pipe), chipped ECU's around $400+, and full cat-backs around $400

Now when you say you suggest not using the Warpspeed Y-pipe, do you just mean for the 5th gens?

Or do you mean in general?

and if so why?

5.5 Gen with VQ35DE. Bad design and they bang like hell. Warpspeed does not seem to care either, at least they did not when people started complaining.

Ok I was worried that it was for all Max's, I was planning on getting one for mine.

That sucks though...you would think they would care if there product wasnt helping the car any.

Companies like that need a good

It may have had some performance gains but every time you put your foot down, it sounded like huge woodpeckers slamming into the bottom of the floor. I had a local muffler shop work on it 3 times. The third time they had to reweld it because it had broken due to being pulled onto a lift (it hung a good 1"+ lower than the factory Y-pipe). When I got it back, it wasnt' as bad but still slammed so I drove home, got the factory y-pipe and had them immediately replace it.

I also have their B-pipe. The B-pipe was short by a foot and I had to have a muffler shop lengthen the pipe to fit.

As far as I'm concerned they are a shoddy company and I would go elsewhere.

hmmm...

I guess good to know now before I bought it.

Thanks for the warning and I will definitely consider that when I go to purchase one in the spring!

Not a problem. Many people with non-5.5 gens seem happy with their products.

Their Y-pipe worked fine on my car. No complaints here. Maybe I just got one of the good ones.

You don't have a 5.5 gen

Hey Adutatious:

I still a bit confused by your suggestions. Do I purchase the Warpspeed y pipe since you stated: "I believe headers are somewhere between $500-700 (includes the y-pipe")?

Thanks,

Jeff

It's pretty much an either or situation. You either want headers, or a y-pipe. The headers will include everything from the new exhaust manifolds back to the catalytic converter. The y-pipe will connect to the stock manifolds, and go back to the catalytic converter.
