ok yall i have a problem,my check eng light is on the problem is when i am driving it sounds like my muffeler gets cloged up and then the rpms willnot go over 1000. i had the light problem checked and they told me it is my cat. the car is a 02 spec-v.i have heard of a recall on the manifold but cant find the recall on any web site.help...

There are two cats, a precat and the actual cat.

Go to the dealer. If your precat blew (which it sounds like it did), they'll give you a new engine because it's a recall. If it's the second cat, they'll simply make you pay to replace it, unless you're under warranty.

i called the dealer and they said there isnt a recall on the 02 spec-v

Oh wow. Okay, are you sure they said that? There are multiple recalls and problem areas.

There is a precat recall. If your precat went, Nissan owes you a new motor, period.

1000rpm is too low to be in safe mode either, something must actually be wrong.

Other possibilities are the throttle position sensor (unlikely) and the butterfly screw issue (pretty likely if it's not a precat issue).

Anyway, call your dealer again and ask them about a precat recall. If you can, just tow the car over there and make them look at it.

Better yet, go to a different dealer if you can, but if not go with the first one.

I really can't believe they told you that there's no recall. I can't find the thread on it that was here, but the recall very much exists.

Nissan is full of bologna. I had the precat recall done on my 02 spec. Now the car burns oil with only 40k miles on the clock. Last oil change was at least a 1k and this oil change is about the same. I'm putting the stock air box on tomorrow and its going in to start an oil consumption test. I'm sure a new motor will be the the outcome, but at least the power train is still under warranty.
