ok i have just gotten my sr put into my 240 and i am having major over heating problems. ok heres the deal i have put the KOYO RADIATOR, NISMO THERMOSTAT, DUEL ELECTRIC FANS. also when i had the motor put in i had a metal headgasket put on car. i have blead the system like a 1000 times and i dont think i have an air pocket. now here comes the fun part i pulled the thermostat out and drove it and it over heated with it out. has anyone had or does anyone have any idea what could be going on? thanks

It should overheat with the thermostat out unless you're driving non-stop at considerable speed. Think about it, the water never has a chance to cool if the thermostat is gone.

As for your overheating issues, are your fans blowing the right direction? IDK how many times I've seen fans hooked up backwards and people wonder why their car keeps overheating.

You can always start the car up with the radiator cap off and just keep filling up the radiator as it gets hotter and the water level drops. If you see the water bubbling after you've done that for a while, you could have a crack in a water jacket somewhere or something else is causing air to get in there (you said the HG is new so I doubt there's anything wrong with that).

both of your hoses that hooks up to your radiator should be hot, if the top one is getting hot and not the buttom one then there is something blocking it

I am willing to bet my money that your coolant temp sensor and your coolant temp switch need to be replaced. I had the same exact "overheating" problem. The gauge in the stock cluster kept telling me I was over heating when it really wasn't because the coolant temp switch in SRs go bad very easily.

I swapped out both sensors with one from 93 KA and BOOM problem gone.

yes that does make since. there doesnt seem to be any bubbles i mean there are a few when i pour it in but not a consistane flow of bubbles. also both hose are getting extemely hot, and very tight so i know that its building pressure. and yes my fans are wired right. one was done backwards before but i fixed that.

yup... I know how frustrating that is.. I literally changed everything in the cooling circuit only to find out that it was those dang sensors...

Go to your local auto parts store. They should be around 20 bucks for both sensors.

really? that would be awesome. so the ones from a 93 240sx will work? because i can drive the car for about an hour and then it will over heat. then after i let it cool off for about 10 mins or so i can go back driving. i knew that it had to be something. i hope its that. are those sensors had to change out?

yup i got both of my sensors from a 93 240sx. Coolant Temp sensor and Coolant Temp Switch. Big one is for ECU and Small one is for gauge.

Nope very very easy to change out. Look above the housing with ther thermostat in it and you will see the sensors threaded into a coolant neck. Unplug, unscrew, take your new sensors, screw them in. Done.

Just to be safe, id also get one of those probe thermometers.. You know those that you stick in your meat or something and see how hot the water is. You stick it in the radiator filler neck. Do this to make sure that its not actually over heating. Should be around 78 degrees CELCIUS
