Hey, my SR was low on oil and there was metal grinding...well I changed oil pans and founds some gold metal in the oil...how bad is this?? How much bearing can be shaved off and the engine still be good??? Thats my main concern right now. If the bearings did get some shaved off, would a little extra oil in the engine and pan compensate for that??? Any input is welcome and hope I can still drive the car.

Bearing metal is made down to the ten thousandth of an inch so ANY metal shaved off a bearing is bad news.

You can either hope that wasnt bearing metal, start rebuilding the block, or get another engine.

If it isnt making any noise or no mechanical problems then it should be ok for now. It is when you start getting bearing knocks then you know it is deffinantly time to change them or get a new block.

You need to go ahead and check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. If the pressure is even low, the cams will tend to eat up their bearings. Not to mention the shortened life span of the bottom end.

If the pressure is good, then you got lucky

well ill be installing a electrical oil pressure gauge as soon as the adapter fitting comes in. What pressures should be expected??? What other metal could be grinded away other than bearings???

Hey Yellow Jacket, would you be interested in trading your coupe w/SR for my car if its bad?? Ill throw some cash in too of course. Let me know. Thanx.
