anyone know if the threads on the head that you can tighten down the valve cover with are easily retapped? one of mine is stripped so i have oil seeping out. i can either use a bolt and a nut to seal it or retap the original hole in the cover and the head. ADVICE PLEASE?!!!! i want to stop this leak

thanks in advance

Go to a local auto parts store and get a Helicoil. That's what I used to fix mine and it has stayed sealed for quite some time.

You will need to take one down with you to the part store. They will then be able to match the type of thread along with the size of the bolt. Those Heli's work great, but first, double check to see if the bolt threads are stripped or if it's the receiving end. You won't get any help unless you bring in a 'sample' bolt. Nitro

As long as the nut 'n bolt keeps it from leaking badly, that's the route I would take. FWIW I don't use any larger than a 1/4" ratchet on my valve cover, because those threads are very easy to strip. I helicoiled about 8 of the threads in my head, due to prev. owner. It's not hard at all to do, the valve cover thread size is 6x1mm, but I'm only 90% sure on that(from memory).

There's a thread I created when I did mine, search for it, it describes what I had to do.
