Hello everyone I'm A new guy to NICO and this is my first thread! Think you guys can help? My 91 Q's sunroof worked perfectly... until today. Ok I'm NO tech. at all, but here it goes. What some guys here have reffered to as the "wind flap" (the flap that pops up as soon as you open the roof) wont go down all the way upon closing causing the roof to hit it and not close all the way. Damn! I looked at th sun roof and I've found that this "flap" (what's this called?) is pushed down by the sunroof its self. The rails that guide the sunroof are angled so when the roof is nearly closed the "flap" is pushed down and the roof closes and seals. "flap" Attempts to close but doesn't clear the roof by what looks like only a few mm's. Any Ideas?

My 91 Q is clean. Just had engine swap, no cracks or blemishes on the interrior. I just love my baby. People always tell me. "I can't believe it's a 91!" They think I'm tellin a lie. PROUD DADDY!

Welcome to the board, Dave. Sounds like a great car.

Did your car have the Factory Service Manual bible in the trunk? There should be a section in the body that describes sunroof R&R.

I've got the EXACT same problem with my J30. And the car came with everything BUT the service manual "bible" in the trunk. I'd like to see the answer to this one too.

I have this problem on my Q every now and then. I lubricated everything even though it is all clean and rust free and it helped but I still have the probelm probably 1 out of 10 times I open it. My solution thus far is to close it when I am going 100mph...that creates enough down force on the wind flap :D Otherwise I just quickly pop my finger up there while it is closing and all is good.

Yeah fellas.... I think our (my) problem is this. I'm sure y'all have got up on your ride and checked the sunroof mech. and how it works right? Pertty simple..... You see that the roof slides back and foward on the rail.... when the roof is close to closing it pushes the wind flap down by "running over" it's angled rails. Ceck this though.... at the begining of the angled rail is plastic then it meets metal. This is my roofs failure point. On the passengers side this part where plastic and metal meet Instead of being rigid, it bends not pushing the wind flap down on this side. The drivers side is not damaged... it does push the flap down but not nearly enough to close the roof. can this piece be replaced... don't want to spend much $$$$. I might be able to reinforce this piece any ideas? riswicki... watch your fingers dude :ylsuper

too late....I already pinched them a couple of times doing the one hand and stretch the finger trick, but I have got the technique down now and can do it wiith ease. I will check my plastic things to see what's up with them....

upload it into your members ride section and then link it to this thread.....rex has posted instructions on how to do this. I am not a computer wiz myself and had to learn also about a month ago how to do it.

You can try and bend it up so that when it makes contact it pushes it down far enough. Or you could mold some plastic on there with epoxy. Pretty ghetto, but it's worth a shot.
