ok heres the problem i just installed a new thermostatin my DOHC when my temp. indicator goes alomost to high im guessing the thermostat lets coolant in the engine. i can feel the hose pretty warm the (bottom hose).the one that goes into the thermostat.now the weird part is when i slow down the temp goes up but then out of no were the temp goes down its keeps on doing this back in forth.and of course when i accelerate it stays at proper temp.any ideas anybody thanks?

Are you sure you got the t-stat in correctly? Could be a bad gauge also. The way a t-stat works is simple, Coolant sits in the block until it gets up to temp. The t-stat has a wax material around a spring, when the coolant gets warm enough (oem is around 175degres) itll soften the wax and cause the spring to open up, allowing coolant in through the lower hose, into the radiator and cycles to the upper and in that pattern.

Things to check, air pockets. Did you bleed the system when you finished? Crack there should be a screw somewhere around where the upperhose connect the the engine, when the engine is cold open that competely and fill the radiator until liquid comes out, then close it back up. then start the car (best to lift the front about a foot to make the cap the highest point) and let it get up to temp with the cap off and kinda jiggle hoses around. If the coolant keeps splattering violently and more so on a rev once its warmed up (like bubbley for 30minutes straight) you might have a blown-hg.

make sure the interior heater is set to high and you warm up the car so air in the heater area has a chance to escape. Someone else also mentioned bouncing the entire car to shake air loose ie sit on bumper. I have put 6 litres of coolant in my car so far. .5 liter in the reservoir. the total is 7.25 quarts if you dont like metric.

ok i arlready set the heater on on high and bleed the system alot of air came out. then i was test driving it and the same problem happedn the temp goes up and when it reaches high the temp just drops down fast. another thing the radiador gets really hot and the coolant runs up the reserve tank and spills everything. i also changed the raditor cap.could it be that the cap is not good?

It's possible that the cap has gone bad, when was the last time you replaced it? If you haven't replaced it yet, it's something that's 1. cheap to replace, and 2. a good idea to replace and lastly 3. could be the culprit to your boiling over problem.

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere in your system. It may be a small one that takes some searching to find.

Keep trying to bleed the air out of the system...doing it once may not be enough, heat the car up to temp and let it cool down, fill up the radiator. keep doing it until you don't have to put anymore coolant in...
