Hi everyone,

My 93 J30 is now having problems starting. Recently I changed my spark plugs, NGK's PFR5G-11 (OEM) and fuel filter. The car ran fine for about two weeks since. Now the car has a hard time starting after it is cold.

I read the service manual and it said to check for fuel problems. Well I checked the fuel pump with my volt meter and it had the proper continuity. Next the book said to check the fuel pump relay. I can't get to it.

Is there an easy wat to get to the fuel pump relay?

And what else could be wrong?

My battery is fine and my alternator is going bad, but I don't think that that is the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Geoff.

I know this is going to sound dumb, but my J30 recently started having starting problems, and after getting everything checked out (and shelling out $90 for a new battery) it turned out all it needed was a good tap on the starter.

I jacked the car up and rattled on the starter for about 30 seconds with a hammer and the car started up just fine from then on.

Worth a shot, no?

Likely the fuel pump. It occurs more frequently when the car is cold. Eventually is will start and then putter and blow white smoke until the excess fuel burns off.

At least that is what happened to mine.

My 2 cents

I don't have a scanner to check for codes.

My starter is fine.

For my fuel pump, I checked to see if it had continuity, and it did. However, I am convinced that it could still be the fuel pump.

MIRACULOUSLY, the car is running fine now. I refueled with a different brand of gas and it runs back to normal. But I am probably going to get a new fuel pump when I get enough money just to be safe.

Thanks for you help,

Geoff.
