put a breaker bar on the motor and turn it over a little then try it.. the starter might not be lining up with the flywheel

It soulnd like the solnoid is not engaging.

a few things might be wrong. make sure you have a good ground on your motor. second make sure the starter solenoid is connected to the statred motor properly and conections are tight.

you can always test this on the car. put positive voltage to the small spade connector and see what happens. you should hear a click and then the motor turn over.

did you put a upgraded flywheel on it...if so it could not be the right one.....that happened to me....but if the starter is good... it could be going out past the flywheel so before you buy anything try spacing the flywheel out away from the bell housing with some washers.....

Okay, here's the deal so far, bought the swap complete from a trusted import company. Motor and transmission were not seperated and the swap was installed. Went to start the car, and the starter turns over fine, but just sounds like the flat surface of the starter gear is just rubbing on the flat surface of the flywheel. No grinding noises, just a rubbing/whirring sound. I now have 4 SR starters that all do the same identical thing.

The motor turns over fine by hand, the flywheel shows NO visible signs of wear, the only thing I can think of right now is possibly the wrong flywheel is on the motor, but I don't know if there is any other flywheel of a different size that will bolt to the motor with the clutch that fits the transmission.

i put a upgraded flywheel on my car and had the proble mwehre the bendix wouldnt engage the flywheel at all.......so i pulled the motor and put the stock flywheel on........the easiest thing to do would problly bull off the flywheel and try to find a stock sr20 and compare it......someone told me that i may have had a sr20 de motor and someone put a stock turbo on it......so i didnt know who to beleive......did you try spacing it out

Yeah, I tried spacing it out and nothing changed. It appears to be a stock flywheel, but I don't know if there is a way to tell (through the inspection cover maybe?) without pulling the transmission back out of the car.

no there is no real way of telling unless there is a number that you could see....i dont know ....you could maybe count teeth and compare that to the sr20det size.....ya can probally find that around here somewhere...but instead of taking the time to do that its probally easier to pull off the trans.....i had issues doing that and just pulled the motor back out because thats not too bad.....lmk how it goes
