I have a 1991 240sx se coupe. I went to start it the other day and it wouldn't start. I think that the problem its the starter. Now i jacked my car up to find that the bolt(one of them) that connected the starter to the transmission had its head snapped off of it probably due to overtorque. I know there is another bolt somewhere but it isnt anywhere in sight. Can anyone direct me to where that other bolt could be? And has anyone else has this problem? Thanks.

coincidentilly i have a 91 SE as well, and 2 weeks ago my starter died, so i had to replace it. before you remove thew starter try tapping it, i assume youve done that. sometimes it gets the car started again. if it does work, its prtobably your starter. anyways, there is one more bolt holding it in, and it is a real ***** to get out. its towards the top of the starter, and it is not possible to see from the bottom. see if you cant find it by looking from the top of the engine. to take the bolt out, its best to remove your front passenger tire so its easier to get underneath the car this way. good luck

i did remove my front passager tire to make things a bit easier, i found out that the previous owner had tried to take the starter off and snapped the bolt that is visible from the bottom of the car. i also found out that the relay clicks when i try to start it. I dont know if its supossed to do that or what? i cannot find the bolt that your talking about but im sure its there. but it might just be the relay do you think so?

have someone hold the key in the start position and take a pry bar or your tire iron from the car and hit the starter. if it starts your starter is bad. if you have a manual transmission and the above test doesnt work try tapping the relay with a screw driver. do this while the person in the car is hold the key in the start position. the bolt your looking for is right behing the starters solonoid on top. put your hand over the top of the starter and slide it back toward the transmission when you hand drops off the solonoid you should feel the bolt. its a 14 mm
