Hi, I have a 1996 q45 that I brought with a humming fuel pump. Last week it started stalling and the pump got very loud so I put it to rest till I got another fuel pump( Used with 44,XXXX and lifetime replacement). I drop It in and I cant even hear it. I drove it acouple miles and the car definitely drives better But it stalls very bad but doesnt die. While it stalls I could see and smell smoke which is white

Any ideas? thanks

Time to buy a fuel pressure gauge... the stalling sounds like you may have fried the controller, but the white smoke is a mystery to me. Did you do any other work at the same time? Maybe something that would have invloved moving or disconnecting the MAF? Any ECU codes?

Thanks I think your right about the controller.I never had any MAF problems yet though I did clean it a couple months ago.

Know any place to get one cheap or anybody want to sell theirs?

A lifetime warranty on a used fuel pump is like the "FAMOUS TAIL LIGHT WARRANTY"..........when you take possession and drive away....that's it, we don't know you.

White smoke? Ever overheated? How's your coolant level?

Yeah the lifetime warranty is Iffy but paperwork doesnt lie. The car only spews white smoke when It stalls and my car has never overheated

I had white smoke out the exhaust when I did not seat an injector correctly that I had just installed. It almost hydro locked but, was able to start it to get it home to repair. Luckily it was #1! After I properly seated it, the white smoke went away. So, I believe white smoke can be a overly rich condition, too.

I had the same problem and the solution after a costly tow and repair was the MAF sensor. These are hard to test and can show up in the diagnostic computer code. Make sure you reset the car computer before restarting the car. This will reset you settings and allow it to adjust to it. I also had the white smoke you mention and the car kept turning off on me on the road when I stopped or slight stutter in the freeway....

You are not supposed to clean these parts since they are sealed and are delicate it nature. Most cleaners are too harsh and leave deposits that will ruin them. I own a 91 M30

Good Luck

Well over 16 years and 305,000 miles I've gone thru 2 pumps and have 85,000 miles on the 3rd unit...........The pumps lifetime and the cars lifetime are two different things.
