Hi there,My name is Rich, unfortunatly I have a problem thats getting serious. The kid down the street from me keeps kicking the tar out of my 240SX and I cant seem to do any thing about it.Specs on my car 1989 240sx "silvia" style w/ka24e and a recent 5-speed conversion simple mods include custom air cleaner , cat-back exhaust ,300ZX fuel pump, electric fan(9 amp draw) , KYB agx struts , sport coils(2 inch drop)

specs on "the Kids" car 1999 Honda prelude si 2.2 vtech 6-speed mods not clear but seem similar to mine.

As luck would have it. I couldnt even afford a junkyard turbo let alone any conversion you might come up with. (blew the last of my cash on the 5-speed trans) So I'm stuck with the venerable 2.4l 12-valve engine but I really need to do something fast. (no play on words intended)I am an experienced race driver so I do in fact know when a car is still anemic. and yes this engine is spirited but a little weak, it really want to make me happy but it just cant do anything about it current design. If anyone has any ideas please tell me , my Nissan desperatly needs RETRIBUTION from this "honda" junkie.

Thanks for being here.

pop his tires.. lol

free mods include.. weight reduction. Get rid of that spare and anything else you can remove.. I assume this is a daily driver and not a track car..For cash you can add things to your car that reduce the parasetic effect on the engine.. lightened crank pulley.. reletivly cheap.. around 100 bucks or so and are good for a few ponies in the upper end.

Are you guys actually launching or racing while already rolling? If launching you should get him off the line.. its your top end that is getting you... a little porting on the intake side will help that some.. as will cams.. but those are $$hope that helps you out some...

I don't know man, those Preludes are pretty quick. Might take a little more than free/cheap mods to catch up with him. I could hang with my buddies until he hit like 7k...then it was all over.

A cam for a KA-E shouldn't be THAT expensive. That is probably one of the only mods that will help you get more top end.

Oh yeah, Welcome to NICO

dude, KA-E's make like what? 140? that vtech's putting out 190. those preludes do 0-60 in 7.2 seconds quarter in low 15's. You're not going to catch him with bolt-ons alone methinks

Make sure you give it a nice tune up NGK plugs wires etc... (I bet you already have) check your injectors/clean them... you're still going to get the tar kicked out of you but it might help a bit. Also evey 17 pounds you loose you gain one horse so... go on a DIET.. Take off the cover for the exhaust manifold that weighs like 15 pounds by it's self... take out your spare/jack... etc.. Cheap tubo kit from Ebay? that's the best way to really really kick him.

HIs car is 10 years newer, comes with 50 more horsepower at the flywheel stock, and a very close torque figure to your 240. You do however have him with weight. Preludes are fwd beasts, weighing over 2900 pounds. But if he is beating "the tar" out of you, then nothing cheap is gonna help you win.

#1: Find proper shift points#2: Remove all weight from your car that you can afford to lose(all personal items, spare, rear carpeting, seats, seatbelts, windshield sprayer system, floor mats, trunk trim are all things that I've removed). And run your car with only like 2 gallons in it. Thats good for like 70 lbs. Every 17 pounds(appox) that you remove from your car should be good for around 1 horsepower. Start stripping her down. My 93 ka24de is running about 7 secs to 60. Ohh and yeah, tuneups do wonders. I recently seafoamed my car and damn, so much more response.

Hey guys I'm back andthanks for the info, I do think i found a solution to some of my problems. However I'm going to be in the dog house with my bank for a while.step 1: camshaft, comp cams makes a decent grind for a fair price (just installed tonight)step 2: light weight flywheel / B/W brute force clutch, a little pricey but a friend had them as left-overs from his track car.step 3: ecu tuning, I used a laptop to hack into the computers programing and discovered that I was burning way too rich, (probably the damn fuel pump) by decreasing pulse with and altering ignition timing I was able to get that cleared up. Oh and by the way I discovered that no matter how much I tried I couldnt raise Static RPM limit but could raise the speed limiter ( MAX limit with stock ecu programability 146)step 4: TEST TRACK I'm pretty close to route 66 raceway where I live AND tomorrow when new mods are finished , I'll see how everything comes together

That little DORK came by my driveway, Revved it up and burned out right in front of my housesomehow the idea of pulling his scrawny butt out of the car and beating him like an unwanted habit is really sounding preety good to me , THANKS DAMMITBOY!But I think i'll hold off until this weekend for violence (after all its better to tell a judge you were too drunk to remember beating up a kid TEEHEE)And perhaps I should answer some of your questions...THEKAGE, we're launching. SHUT UP! HEADS UP! AND DRIVE MUTHA!and thanks for the pulley idea I didnt think about that one .RIPSHIFT just an FYI 1999 prelude si 2.2 w/ 6 gear 220hp and 196 at the wheels stock. (hey I had to do some homework to know what I was up against)and the real blighter is I used to own a 300zx turbo with less power than him and beat him like a drum everytime. Kinda funny how times change huh. KENRIK what intake cover? The only thing I see ON my intake is my intake. Unless I'm just not seeing it. Let me know what to look for please.NAED240SX yeah his car is really heavy for what it is about 3600 from what I'm told, and yes tune-ups work! your preaching to the chior here I've done so full out NGK/NISSAN goodies and I can just bounce the key and she fires right off. however weight reduction is at this point a matter of question I dont have any trunk stuff to unload and less than half of an interior left ( hell I dont even have a stereo anymore) to the point where road noise is actually amplified with the windows rolled down. again thanks for the welcoming and the suggestions . I promise to keep everyone whose interested abreast of the situation . AND FOR OF US WHO LOVE OUR NISSANS I SWEAR I WILL KICK THAT HONDAS @$$!!!!!!

Heh, how about a cheap, relatively easy CAI and remove the AIV while your at it?

CAI out of stock intake (only if you still have stock intake, duh... )zerothread?id=118677

AIV Repair/Removal (only if you don't need to pass emissions)zerothread?id=118677

Rock on, chill out, watch for the innocent bystander/drivers, and keep an eye on the fuzz while you make a feeble attempt to kill a stornger car!

it's not stronger!! it just has more HP... lol Did I say Intake? hmm I thought I said exhaust.. take off the exhaust cover and wrap the pipes that should take away 10-15 pounds.. also.. Chuck the AIV unless you already have.. Also do you have any places that sell racing fuel around you? I have a place that sells some dam good stuff but it burns hot as hell... Only have like 2 Gal of gas in the car to save weight.. speaking of which if you see that little punk at a gas station that would be a good time to do it because he will have extra weight (I doubt he runs on 2gal for day to day stuff)... you are doing straight line right? you could always use a lil NOS

there is no way the heatshield on the exhaust manifold weighs anymore than three pounds. Its been said, but you've yet to try it, WEIGHT SAVINGS. if you have a coupe you're already in luck, cuz they flippin rule.

I physically weighed all the interior i removed today because i was gonna store it in my basement. Including sound deadening, all the trim from behind the door panels, the rear seat belts converted to work on the fronts because i removed the power seat belts, carpet, spare tire, and anything else that is there. this takes about two or three days to remove all the tar and get everything how you want it. however, this is an easy way to remove almost 170 pounds. thats almost a free 10 horse to the wheels, and you notice it all the way through the R's. Launches are better and sound is incredible

Hello again everyone I'm back, and holy $#!%.BABY'S GOT BACK! My 1/4 mile run today (after I finished the flywheel / cluch combo) was to say the least IMPRESSIVE. ahem 15.741@114mph I know this just cant be right but 4 runs each within +/- 1 tenth cant be wrong. I even double checked with the guys in the tower and confirmation has been acheived. I also found my best launch RPM at 2800 , this seemed to sort of bog the engine for 3 tenths but zero wheel spin off the line it just hooked and took. my 60 foot times were slow showing 3.1 seconds, but after 3 grand it pulled all the way to rev limit thru to 4th gear . Not bad for lowly 12 valve eh? I jest but I had fun, and an education to boot, I've just come to find out that "the PUNK" has been using a 50 horse dry shot cheater on me! OOOHHH that slimey no good snake! OH WELL, it just so happens that he cant fill his bottle any more till he finds a replacement hmmm. I also found out that the system was used; that he installed (apparently he got sick of losing to my old Z ) I dont know If any one is familiar with my states law but A- person must be 21 years of age to purchase N2O( its considered a controlled substance and B- person must have a racing license to prove intent of N2O product. so I guess he'll be driving on empty for a while, hehhehhehheh. But enough about me, hows everone else . and who likes beating hondas raise your hand;-) I havent run into him yet but looking forward to the rematch.
