My girlfriends(yea, i know) q45 has a few issues at 240xxx. First being the valve cover gasket leak(fixing soon) and the fact that it shakes at around 50-70 mph. The faster you go, the less it shakes. But... The steering seems to stiffen. It also(more violently) shakes on deceleration. Worse when braking, then stops shaking at about 35. Eveybody say rotors, i say b.s. under the driverside there is a thin bar(tierod?) Its twards the rear of the suspension assembly. It turns left and right a little(supposed to), but it also has other play in it. Unlike the passenger side. Its connected to the bar that runs under the front of the car. This is where the play ends. So i figure that the bushing has gone bad as it is weathered. My mechanic isnt infinity savy, but he is the best around my area. hell have it next week. Maybe some of you q45 experts could help with ideas of what this could be. Please save the rotor comments, as this is inexpensive. Thanks all, any info is greatly apprectiated

the Q's suspension (for the 97-01) is a typical setup that doesn't differ from many other imports. If he can do a Honda or Toyota, he will be comfortable with the nicer quality of the Q setup. If he is worth his salt, one look at the suspension for him should alleviate any concerns he may have.

Sounds to me like a nice video posted up of the issue would be best - perhaps a good suggestion to all new members, instead of tons of descriptions, let's see photos and video!

It's 2012 people!

There is a torsion bar under there which I would bet hasn't been touched and is probably metal on metal. Either get the rubber parts ordered and pay the labor to install them or order new bars.

also, you could be looking at warped rotors, when was the last time they were turned/replaced/serviced? You have a very high mileage car here so most everything is probably shot. Have you done the struts/shocks? If not those are way past their prime.

Could be any or all of these, but to get this car running lke new will take some $$ and labor.

Rotors have about 8,000. Had em turned not to long ago. I can post a video of it in the morning/afternoon. I expect to put 3-5k in it over the next year or two. Im fairly mechanicly inclined, but im worried about the 4000 lbs on stands. Ill be shure to post info and video links as i rebuild. If nothing else, to help fellow Q owners.

I had this car 2' off the ground at all four corners when I change my engine in my gravel driveway. That was tons of fun, and terrifying. Fortunately, through the stages of the project in which the transmission and engine were removed, I consoled myself by sticking to the transmission tunnel, knowing if the vehicle fell I wouldn't be crushed.

Once the engine and transmission were back in, all bets were off :)

I used many 12x12 sections of timber and made sure everything was solid. If you can literally push a corner of the car hard, and have it rock only slightly, unless there is a jack or lift involved nothing will come crashing down. Don't ever jack or use a hoist when under a car that's entirely off the ground. There was a surprising amount of standing lateral inertia from being suspended over a SLIGHTLY unlevel surface, and the car wanted to go one way more than another.

well check those torsion bars then, that is most likely your issue.
