My wife and I are trying to figure out what is safer, A wooden roller coaster or a steel roller coaster. I think a steel because I would think the weather or a broken board could cause serious damage to it. She thinks Wooden ones because they were made first and still being made/used to this day then there's a reason why. Also she thinks that more could go wrong with the steel ones being that they're so technical. Whats you opinion.

I'd say steel, termites can't get through them.

Wooden rollercosters are still in use because they offer nostalgia. Has nothing to to with safety.

But really, you should just c***-slap her and say "Steel is safer, and this is the only wood you should be paying attention to*."

*Unless you have hardwood floors. Then she needs to clean those bishez.

You should just say, "Yes dear, wood IS better." Then go show her why. :naughty:

The same reason people like wooden coasters so much is what makes them less safe than modern steel coasters. Every ride is different; the wood expands, settles, creaks, shrinks, decays, etc.

It has to do with maintenance...
A Bugatti aint worth crap if its got no oil or gas....

If there were a catastrophic accident, the steel coaster would cause more damage because they without question go faster, higher, harder (than the wood ones lol).

At a small local park by me, someone flew off one of those "high swing" things, a swing suspended by 20' or so of chain, and landed in the parking lot a fair distance away from the ride in a nice splat. There were actually 2 accidental deaths there within a few months of eachother.. its not an accident if you fail to maintain yo sheit!

I'd say wood because it is inspected more thoroughly more often.

But seriously, you can't compare them. Other than their function, they are totally different animals.

WIN.

p.s. Neither of you is an engineer. So you're both wrong. Wear a condom so you won't make little non-engineer kids.

Both are perfectly fine time tested structural materials, safety comes down to design and proper maintenance.

Termites require a living organism to live and reproduce.

Rust and corrosion will out live even the cockroaches.

I actually met Greg at a League of Extraordinary Misogynists meeting.

Don't lump all relationships in with the clearly humorless (and intelligentless [not a real word]) relationship you have with your wife.

Keep in mind both types of rollercoasters require daily inspections and repairs. Wood breaks, so do welds. I think a much better argument would be which is more fun. Of my two current favorites, one is wooden, the other is steel. Millenium Force at Cedar Point (steel: very fast, very smooth), and Thunderbolt at Kennywood (wooden, slow but awesome).

I would recommend a roller coaster vacation trip. Hit several parks in one road trip. I took the family on great one a couple years ago in Altima. One of my son's favorite vacations.
