well i have looked and searched for this but noone seems to fully explain how to do it. i have both engines i know u have to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds but the thing that get me is that on the 91 s13 engine theres a bunch of vacum lines and hard lines i wanted to know if i just swap the hole manifold and everything lines vacums sensors, take the hole manifold with everything on there and put it on the s14 or is there like certain part of the manifold that i should take out please someone help me.

okay, i just completed this exact thing on a 92 automatic, so i'm gonna point you through everything you gotta do.

You need: S14 head, and block. S13 intake manifold and exhaust manifold.

all the sensors you need are on your S13 manifolds. You can use the S14 oil pressure sensor and knock sensor, as they are already on the block.

If you use the S13 AC compressor you also HAVE to use the S13 AC bracket. The S14 bracket only attaches to the top two holes, and it makes the AC sit at an angle that makes driving it with a belt about impossible. The PS brackets are the same, the alternator bracket is the same.

If you use an S14 alternator you have to slightly modify (aka drill) the large ground wire, but the other connections are the same and it works.

I was trying to trace vacuum lines to see exactly how similar the S13 and S14 intake manifolds are, but then i got lost and just bolted up the S13 one. The S14 is better for high end, but its going to be more work to make this work, so just save it for a rainy day (ITBs).

I'm pretty sure the S14 exhaust manifold doesnt even bolt up to the S13 downpipe, and OBD1 and OBD2 S14 KA's both have different and wrong o2 sensors.

I'm having a hard timing remembering if i forgot something, but i'm pretty sure this is it.

so to recap:Use your complete S14 head and blockUse your complete S13 intake mani and exhaust maniPick the right AC bracket (if applicable)Depending on the alternator,a tiny tiny modification is necessaryI just grabbed a starter off my floor, don't know if its S13 or S14, so i dont know if it matters

If you get to it, try 248/232, have fun

ok thanx another thing do u know the torque specs of the clutch and flywheel and have u tried the 248/240 cams and how does the 248 and 232 feel? Another thing i have the s13 alternator not a s14 one will that still work?

Actually if you want to get rid of the butterflies it's very easy if you have an s14 manifold with an s13 ecu. The lower S13 manifold bolts right up to the upper s14 manifold, and no vacuum lines or anything run through the upper part. The only meaningful difference between the two upper manifolds is that little coolant line that runs through the TB connects up at the bottom of the manifold coolant pipe instead of the side.

I have not got a chance to try 248/240, but i plan too soon. I'm more than satisfied with 248/232 so i'm excited to try 248/240, but i think it'll make the low end mushier at the cost of top end, a trait that is even evident in 248/232

my 240/240 automatic is still in break in, so i can't open it up yet, but i must say it is very very responsive, especially for an automatic at less than half throttle. i estimate my automatic hatch weighs well over three hundred lbs more than my stripped coupe, plus the notable handicap of being an auto.... so they can't really be compared. sorry this isn't a cam thread, but it's nice to know your options

S13 alternator is ideal, no problem there. But if it goes out you have another perfectly useful one around

And i definately brain-farted, Insanity is right, swaping the upper manifold with the S14 one if you want that extra top end grunt is as simple as swapping the two sensors near the coolant outlet. I opted to leave it on my auto, but only because its a daily driver
