I got this one, but I don't know where to start. I've checked other cars and been thinking about one of these two. If I can't make it work like this, I'll just hook it up with dim light.

1. Light turns on if I open the door. It turns off 5-10 min later automatically.

2. Light turns on if I open the door. It turns off after I turn the key to ACC on or 5-10 min later.

It's going to be perfect if I can make #2 work, but #1 is still okay. I know I can turn it on first if I hook it up with door switch, but what's next? Anyone know what needs to be done? Do I need a timer or a relay?

s13 key ring with s15 blue led. s13 came with regular bulb and it was just too bright, so I swapped it with a led from s15 key ring. This was a rare option on s13 in Japan and I found one in perfect like new/mint condition, so I couldn't pass.

They make timer relays IIRC. Porsche is known to use them on a few things.

for the timer, what are you looking at using? I'm assuming the stock JDM TCU for those models had provisions? Or did they have a seperate unit?

I would kill for a good, mint condition light ring like that. The blue LED makes it IMO.

I can see that he has it on his car. I hope he chimes in and help me out soon. If not, I'll email him. Thanks.

i hooked mine to dash lights so it only comes on when i turn on the lights. no need to have it on during the day. i hooked the positive to the green wire on turbo timer which is an accessory wire.

Got it. I guess that's what I'm going to do too. I'll just hook it up with a dim/dash light. I'll also hook it up with a switch on the door, so it will turn on if I open the door. Thanks.

That's cool. One tip though...This is something that a driver touches every time start the car, so some of rings and outer trims are not clean. They are faded and scratched up. If you are a picky person, make sure to ask the seller for the clean one.

In yahoo auction in Japan, this shows up from time to time and they sell it with a relay/timer module together. I think that's what I need. I wonder where Nissans13240sx is getting them from, but it would be nice if he gets them with relays/timers together.

I'm not sure how they are wired on the kouki 180sx's but on my friends z32 his key light turns on with the dash lights. I will find out about the timers though.

Also 94_240sx where did you get the blue led. edit nevermind i reread your original post.

Oh and for anyone who wants a clean trim I can get them brand new for a couple extra bucks, it will take a few days to ship though.

I just installed my key light and it seems to fit correctly but there is a gap between the trim piece and the plastic on the steering column. has anyone had this same problem? I can post a pic if needed

A couple of clarifications:This were also commonly available in the US Maxima's.Don't bother using the skinny JDM trim piece, it leaves most of the ring exposed and it just doesn't look right. Use the USDM trim piece for proper looks, but you will need to dremel the trim piece for proper fitment. Not sure of the 93 model, but you might have to also modify either one for proper fitment. The JDM will fit flush by also cutting the inner flanges. Is the only way to get it nice and flush. The key cylinder interferes with the proper fitment.

Today on my adventure to the junk yard i found an Infinity with an ignition ring light still intact. So i get this idea to transplant it to my PF.en i turn the car I notice on the Infinity there are four wires two going to the ignition and two going to the ignition ring light. On my PF there are only two wires going to the ignition. After careful deliberation, prayer & no alcohol i decide I'm make this happen. In hope of not killing my rig I get the idea to splice more wire to the two wires making it into four wires in hope of mimicking the infinity setup.I get it all installed I turn the key, my rig starts up no problem but the ignition ring light does not illuminate. Now assuming i don't know what I'm doing (true story) and the light is in working condition... what did i do wrong or am missing??? I was also thinking if i could get it to turn on and off when i crank up or cut off my rig would be kool. With the way i sit and the position of the steering wheel the light would not bother me.

That's why you need to buy the trim from me. This is modified USDM trim that'll fit perfect.

That's exactly what I did and it fits perfect.

Actually, this is correct setup.

1. Light turns on if you open the door.2. It turns off a couple of minutes later if you don't start the car.3. Turns off right away if you start the car.

I created this thread to find out how to do it, but I just hook it up to dim light and I like that way better. It's cool to see blue key ring always on at night. I really like this key ring.
