I put new rotors and brakes on my J30 in Sept. a few months later, I had to have the rotors turned already. Now, not even a month later..I am stepping on my brakes and once again they are starting to grab and bounce the front end again. the brake pads are fine..any ideas??? could there be an issue with some other part? I have new struts on there. I dont brake hard at all. I just dont want to go to the dealer..since I have sunk some money into what I have already done....thanks for any help here.

What do you mean by that? THe steering wheel shake, or the whole car bounce up and down? What kind of pads did you put on? Some pads are more aggressive than the other, they may stop the car better but it will wear out your rotor too.

Did you put on Nissan OEM rotors? Most aftermarket rotors on the J30 warp within 3 months.

The bouncing you describe sounds like a suspension issue.

Putting new rotors on an out of spec hub [rusty or warped] without shimming them to oem as new spec will just allow them to quickly warp to conform to the hub.

There is a lot more to a proper brake job than just slapping new parts on!

I do feel it in the steering wheel. Its more like a "grabbing" rather than a bounce. if this is of any help ......the rotors were "suppose" to be factory..but the brake shop that put them on are out of business now...GO FIGURE...

Very VERY VERY few non dealers use oem rotors when they can buy junk for $23-28 each..............and go out of business frequently.

The only way to get a non-dealer to install OEM parts is to buy the OEM part(s) yourself and then make sure the non-dealer to install them.

Say what 96% of the parts we use on Infiniti and Lexus are oem from dealer...............we always ONLY use oem parts for brakes.

You are going to the wrong CLASS of shop if they do not offer oem parts.

We do give people an option on rotors but warn them that there is only a 6,000 mile non warp warranty on the aftermarket parts. This is effective enough to scare them into oem.

I have heard (but not sure on the truth) that sometimes cheap brake pads will leave material behind on the rotors, causing them to feel warped even if they really are not actually warped...

If your not using OEM stuff or better aftermarket (meaning more expensive and at least equal quality) then all bets are off.

My front rotrs were warped so last July I put new rotors on the front from ALLSAFE Part # 96253RGS for $16.00 a piece from http://www.rockauto.com

I also put new ceramic pads on from RAYBESTOS Part # PGD587QS for $38.00

Here:

Everything works perfect. This combo stops on a dime. The rotors still look like new& I have put about 7,000 miles on them so far. At $16.00 a piece even if I only get a year out of them who cares.

I've had my '94 J30 for three weeks now, and the rear brakes have squeaked since day one. When I took my car in for a tune up (due to the car not starting when cold, and it started leaking coolant), the mechanic checked the brakes and said the rear brakes are brand new, but it could be the rotors if the pads are cheap. I think I got cheap pads on this thing.
