I'm thinking it's time to have another 1911 and am a bit torn on which make and model. I will be using it as an IDPA piece and personal defense weapon. I thought about going crazy with a Les Baer, but don't think I want to spend that kind of money. From the research I've already done, I am looking really hard at an STI Spartan:

It retail for about seven bills and has a fiber optic front sight with Bomar style adjustable rear. I was thinking that plus a set of Deathgrips would be pretty sweet. Here is a pic of the Deathgrips:

Thoughts?

Look at the Dan Wesson CBOB. I want one badly, but am blowing my budget on a home renovation. Uses lots of Les Baer parts, is a custom gun for the price of a factory piece, and is built in the USA.

MSRP around $1200, but it has been discontinued for 2010. I'm not sure why, as it was there best selling gun.

they're releasing an updated version soon.

for a lower end 1911, I've heard good things about Citadel and Rock Island Armory.

I too will be in the market for one before long....I don't know much about the Spartan though...STI is a great brand however.

I'm usually between Kimber and Springfield for the 600-1000 dollar range pistols.

I'd honestly like to find one without the front slide serrations too....I want more of a classic look. Honestly, a mil spec wouldn't be so bad...but I want it to be able to do 2.5-2" groups or better at 25yds. And front strap checkering..gotta have that.

the Dan Wesson is very nice. Fusion 1911's too...sweet pistols.

When I get one, it may sound dumb, but I want one that's made in the US. The Spartan starts out as an Armscor Slide and Frame and STI does the rest, the Springfields are made by Imbel in Brazil...I think Dan Wessons are made in the Phillipines as well...

well, ok, so far it seems Dan Wesson machines all the forgings themselves.

I think I really want a Valor...but they're hard to get your hands on

I wish there were more top end 1911's without the damn front cocking serratins.

I like Nighthawks...but I think I've sold myself on a Dan Wesson now...they're such a pain in the a** to find in a shop though...I think I see more Nighthawks than I do the DW's

OOORRR

a Fusion

http://www.fusionfirearms.com/

this gives me some serious wood.

I was debating a Kimber a few days ago...after digging into Fusion, I think I'll save more money and drop it on one.

Bob Serva seems to have outstanding customer support and posts often on the 1911 boards.

fwiw, he was the head of Dan Wesson right before CZ bought them in 2005 I believe.

the frames and slides are from STI. They use some stuff from other shops, but it's all top notch and hand fitted.

That Fusion looks SICK. I will have to look into that. I love the Volkmann pistols, but damn, I don't think I can crack that nut, at least not for a while.

I also considered the SIG P220 Super Match, but we'll see. I may be building a couple AR's first.

eh...the 220's are nice...but if I was gonna get a single stack .45, it's gonna be a 1911.

nothing in the world can touch one with a tuned trigger.

<----waiting for the Sig 516 to drop in stores...I wanna see if it's at the msrp they listed a few months back.

1300 msrp for a piston rifle with it's features, yes please.

oh, that bobbed Fusion can probably be ordered around 1800 or so.

I haven't really seen a bad review or really anything other than gushing for the guns.

A mass produced gun with "Custom Shop" stamped on the slide isn't my idea of quality, nor is a plastic mainspring housing. Especially when you can get a DW, Colt, or STI for the money.

I gotta believe the melting treatment they give it makes it nice to carry. That and the weight, or lack thereof. That may make the list. I don't know yet exactly what I want my 1911 to do for me. That is, do I want to be able to mount a light on a rail? Do I just want it to look pretty and shoot tight groups? Do I want a full size or Commander size? Colt is making a comeback and offers a railed model, but I don't really like the way they integrate the rail.

Hmmm...

I'd say go for a nice Commander sized pistol with nice combat night sights and a checkered frontstrap.

no rail, preferably no damn front slide serrations and a nice durable finish.

get one that'll group atleast 2" with good ammo

Well, I bought a Vette so I'll be holding off on the 1911 for a while. This went in a totally opposite direction than I thought, lol.

My buddy just picked up a Kimber Desert forces 1911 with the crimson trace built in laser. That gun is incredible. I couldnt bring myself to spend 1800 but he is celebrating his acceptance into EOD school.

Legal for dealers to sell not much i can buy whatever i want FTF if someone moves here with it. Then the prices are jacked through the roof. Like 850 for a used gen 3 glock 19
