I'd look in the Service Manual for possible instructions ... link is in my sig.

His post is in your thread with a link in it's signature that leads to service manuals (not owner's manuals, which wouldn't do you any good for this anyway). Start with the IDX file for your model and use it to see what other files you need (or download them all for future reference). If you don't want to do that, I can tell you the cupholder is the first thing to come out (after the center console is open) when removing trim from the radio (and the shifter is between the radio and the cupholders, so that should be a good starting point). Additionally, IIRC, the plastic (chrome) piece at the bottom of the shift knob (above the leather) can be pulled down, revealing a clip to remove the shift knob so that the panel you need to remove can be removed. Beyond that, I don't know how the illumination works, so it'd be up to you to determine where it comes from and how to change it (could be a huge electronic module not worth messing with).

Does that part illuminate? I had asked my dealer about it a while back, and was told that there is no illumination of that stick shift legend.

HI,
Sorry for digging up this old thread. I found and replaced the bulb in the picture above, but don't see where that black piece connects to. Does anybody have a picture or idea on what this black piece with 2 yellow wires connects to? I can't find a plug under this panel for the life of me. Thanks! (I did check the FSM from the link, but could not find anything.

I am not a mod, but I'll tell you this, at Nicoclub we actually appreciate when people search for topics in older postings. I have seen forums where people are bashed for bringing up 3-year-old topics and IMO, that's just stifling for progress and forum health.

To the point: See Dean's second pic? To the left of it there's a white plug. I assume that is where all the power to that panel comes from. The wire probably snakes within the plastic and splices into the cigarette lighter power.
What issues exactly are you having? Does your cigarette lighter work?

I don't think the white plug will have an effect on the black plug...there is something in the 'tunnel' of the car under the armrest that he's not able to see.

As for bumping the thread, I allowed it because he asked his question in a new thread and didn't get much response (I had him check the FSM). Sorry you're having an issue JT...I've been on this forum for 6 years and I don't recall anyone having this issue and I haven't had that car in 2 years so I can't even remember exactly what's under that area of the center console. It's easy to take apart, so if I still had the car I'd definitely trace my wire for ya.

Thanks Ilya! I appreciate you trying to help. The FSM link is awesome, and I did learn more about this car.

EdBwoy: I did search the forums, unfortunately I couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I did check the fuse for the cigarette
lighter, and it was indeed busted. I tried turning on the lights, and it's not connected to the shift indicator light. I figured I must be missing something so I opened it back up. I decided to yank on that wire that connects to the ashtray, and viola!! the second wire with a little brown plug popped up from underneath the black plastic ducting for the a/c. I plugged it in, and tried the lights again. Whew!
I was about to give up on it. Not only do I have a working lighter(I won't realy use it, but at least it works. hehe), but finally have all the interior lights working.

Thanks guys for the help!

I'm off to a shaky start with my 4th infiniti, but it's getting better :)

Glad it worked out!

Just so you guys are clear, I am on your side. I probably should have put this better - it's cool that you posted in an older thread. It means you searched and found something that was relevant to your problem and we got to add a little more detail for anyone looking at this thread in the future.
There are other forums that seem to bash people for posting in older threads, yet ironically don't want them starting new threads. The culture at Nicoclub is such that noone gets on your case for posting in a thread that's been idle for 8 years if it adds value.

... I suppose that's a longer, fuller way of saying, "no need to apologize for digging up an old thread, we actually don't mind it here." But heck, you joined this forum way before I did, you probably know that better than me.

Hah no worries man. This community is definitely much better. My job as a moderator on the Y50 and Y51 groups is relatively easy because you guys self-police yourselves (or in general just behave because we're all adults) so it's a good place to be. And we have real good knowledgeable resources such as yourself, EdBoy, so that helps too.

Carry on ya'll :).

I had forgotten that I posted to this question back in the day. I never did get around to replacing cf interior the little light bulb. Does anyone know what kind of bulb it uses?
