Post

Hello Everyone,

New to this forum but owned my 2004 G35 6MT Sedan since new.

Recently replaced the engine after my original engine ate a valve, runs very well, idles smoothly, drove it about 100 miles and then it started setting Check Engine codes P1288 and P1289.

Anybody have any experience with these codes, how to troubleshoot and possible causes, etc.? I have to take the car in for a smog check (California) and these codes are now preventing that!

Any help appreciated.

Since you've owned this vehicle for over ten years I assume you have looked at the FSM for it?

What did it reveal?

A simple google search

Thank you, Telcoman, for taking the time (at 4:25 AM, no less) to assist me.

I had the foresight to perform a "simple" Google search myself, previous to my post requesting assistance, but the laundry list of potential causes listed by Nissan/Infiniti (proving their "sensors" haven't a clue, either) prompted me to seek someone knowledgeable, with a more definitive answer, someone who had actually experienced this before, (or perhaps it's even a common problem of which I had not yet been enlightened) - someone who could tell me of their personal experience and or narrow the wide range of potential causes to the most common amongst them, to avoid a waste of time.

I'm still seeking that someone, but thank you again for your response, Telcoman .. I did say any help appreciated.

I would expect the most experienced Infiniti factory trained tech working at your local Infiniti dealer could provide you an answer with a one hour diagnostic labor charge with a consult tool.
Might be worth it to save you time and aggravation.
