I have had a remote start installed on my new 2008 QX56. The vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent key (actually keyless) system.

THE PROBLEM:The car will start remotely, but shuts off when you get in and step on the brake. The car is not sensing the keyless fob when you approach it. All other remote features (lock, unlock, etc) work normally.

My installer is stumped and I'm ticked that he didn't tell me this before I paid for the whole thing. I'm giving him 2 weeks to come up with a solution or I'm got to have it remove. Not going to stand for this on a $50k plus QX56.

NEED SOLUTION:I'm looking for a work-around whereby after initiating a remote start, the car senses the fob when you approach so the engine won't kill and all other features are active.

Need to hear from, or be contacted by any other installers, owners or dealers that have dealt with this already.

I have also posted this in the Armada/QX56 forum.

Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

Is he using the 1101T interface module? You should not be ticked that he did not tell you that it would work like that. He probably didn't know. The new proximity key interface just became available.

EW, Thanks for your help. I have a box that was left in the car for a iDataLink Multi Series ADS-AL-CA and a AutoPage RS-602 2-channel remote starter w/ keyless entry and trunk release.

What your looking for (seamlessly switching between keys while running) just isn't going to happen. It's not the installers fault that it won't happen, just the way the cars computer is programed to recognize the keys. When you get to your car at least it will be warm, even if it takes an extra 5 seconds to restart it.

I think the 1101T proximity key interface would fix the problem. The way I understand it is you have to surrender a proximity key to be installed in the 1101T and buried in the car. You have to carry a proximity key with you and control the start, locks, etc with the aftermarket remote.

Right but when you step on the brake it shuts down that key. You have to restart the car with the other key recognized, or at least thats my understanding.

EDIT:

Talked to a few of my friends in the area and confirmed that there is no way around this. If you want a warm car you have to deal with the "hassle" of restarting when you get in.
