Hi. I am looking for guidance on my 60,000 servicing of my 1998 Infiniti I30. I love my car, which I purchased used from an Infiniti dealer in Louisiana. I am now in New Jersey and am looking for a place to have my car get its 60k servicing. One dealer quoted me $1200, and another said $850. I've called a couple of mechanics in the area, and they have said around $500. My questions for you, experts with this car, is

1) what are the most important things to happen at 60,000 miles? I know flushing fluids is one of them, and I assume changing spark plug is the other, but what else could account for so much money?2) can a mechanic at a general garage (AAA approved) do this maintenance, or does it require more specialized skill?

Thanks.3) are any of you in the NJ/PA/NYC area and do you know any non-dealership mechanics that are knowledgeable about Infinitis that can provide this service?

Here are the recommended services for your vehicle.

Any competent mechanic should be able to do the services for you. Make sure they use OEM NGK platinum spark plugs.

If you have an automatic, I would also strongly recommend using Nissan Matic-D trans fluid (I recently had a trans flush done at a local Nissan dealer for about $139). Also be aware that a flush is significantly different than a drain and fill, replacing 100% of the old fluid .vs 40% (drain and fill).

If you have a manual trans, use Redline MT fluid (it is a GL4 fluid), and recommended by a great majority of Maxima/I30 owners.

I would call the dealership that you talked with, and ask them specifically what would be done. Then use that as your basis for checking prices at other shops around town.

Great resource. Where can I get the Nissan service interval for the 120,000 and 130k mile service? GF's '98 I30T has 130,000+ miles and has had all dealer services since day one (but never the TB cleaning suggested by NICO members).

Any advice re sparkplugs for a I30 with 130,000 mile?wh
