lol, I took the car out today and drove it, all of a sudden it died on me, lol gas was low basicly on empty, so I ran to the gas station and got $12 bucks of gas and refuel it, and tried to crank it but it won't crank over and start the engine, What I notic is a Vacuum or fan sound coming from the back seat of the car, It never did that before, So I lift up the back seat and saw this I thought it was the fuel pump sound like before but this was louder, and I checked the battery too so that wasn't it, and gas is on Haft, anyone can help me out??? and what is that in the pic??? It makes that sound everytime the key is on the on position, poor car won't crank over. oh and this is for a 95'240 S14.

That is the brain for the airbags, anything yellow is for the airbags. I wouldn't mess with it As far as the sound, from what you have said I couldn't tell you.

hmmm... so I guess it's under that thing, I mean under the car itself and at that same spot, cuz it's vibrates and makes a vacuum sound/fan sound for 3-5 sec and turns off, lol I guess it's the fuel pump but why it would'nt let me crank over the car???

My $0.02: You really weren't quite empty and did NOT run out of gas, but instead something broke and caused your car to stall. Now it won't crank because of whatever broke.

Yes, the sound is your fuel pump. It comes on for about 3 seconds whenever you turn on the ignition, and it would stay on if your engine was cranking.

There aren't many things that can keep a car from cranking. My guess is that it is electrical.

To crank, all you need are four things: a working solenoid, a working starter, a working battery, and a working ignition switch.

It was probably his pump that fell out of place...that would've caused it to not start and also for making a sound he didn't hear before.

hmm.. That might be it, lol Actually, I let my uncle drive the car and I saw him with the car not moving, yea I know where the fuel pump is, isn't it in the trunk near the speaker area, yea that sound is coming under the car from the airbag brain area lol I guess it's the pump . I'll check it out, lol everytime I try to start my car before the fuel pump makes alittle sound, lol now it's just louder. Thanks for helping me out guys, lol hopefully it's just the fuel pump, and i'll check the fuses too.

Even if his fuel pump is totally shorted (which it is not or he would not hear it), it would not keep the engine from cranking. There is no way a broken, loose, or otherwise incapacitated fuel pump will keep your engine from cranking unless you take the head off, set the fuel pump on one of the pistons, and re-install the head.

Now I have to ask... when you say it won't "crank over," do you mean the crank physically will not turn, or do you just mean that it won't start? Not starting is a lot different than not cranking.

lol when I turn the key all the way to start it, it make the cranking sound but not the vroooom sound lol. but the onlything that is different is just the sound of the fuel pump.

nah no cel, I'm going to check all of the fuses tomarrow, maybe some burned out, but I would think that they would be burn cuz the car did start and was driving, lol I saw him take a turn not going that fast and it just died on him lol.

[lol]check your fuel lines going to the fuel rail, if they have pressure and you can feel gas in them, then completely rule out the fuel pump and move on. I also think its something electrical, like a connection falling off or something stupid[/lol]

your fuel pump is in the fuel tank--under the trunk (unless you have an external pump).

you could just say: it cranks but does not start. you got me scratching my head for a sec. now tell me this, is the engine cranking at all or the starter buzzing trying to turn the motor? if it's not cranking then: a) check your battery. b) check your alternator --it may be not be supplying power to the engine or not charging the battery and the engine runs solely on the battery until draining it entirely-- your engine might not crank nor start for this reason too.

you said the fuel gauge on the cluster shows 1/2 full, your fuel pump seems to be working, do you have a fuel gauge in the engine bay to verify the pressure. just look around, your fuel system might not be the problem, there could be something else, like loose wires...etc.

Sup Sup, lol I'm sorry to bring up this old post, but I finally found the problem or think I did, lol I had a friend come look at the car and we tested out the fuel pump lines to see if any gas was coming out, lol it didn't. So, It's a bad fuel pump, lol Got it for $50 lol, you get what you paid for, It was a Supra Fuel pump, lol it was good while it lasted. My question is, my friend has a Walbro (not sure how to spell it) 255 for his S13, Will it fit my S14?? I know this is a noob question. Thanks for reading and any reply would help.
