So basically i got a new shell for my motor as my other car was busted. I swapped everything over and wired it back exactly how i had it in my other car and i run into this problem....... I turn the ignition and all the relays click, but the starter doesnt engage, it attempts to but has yet to spin and turn the motor over... I have had the starter rebuilt and bench tested fine, I have checked the battery voltage. ECT. Im just stumped. I have no clue what has changed that is keeping the car from turning over, it becoming a major annoyance and im almost ready to sell it. I just have no clue what it could be, but it has to be somthing simple as the fuel pump and everything else works. Please help!! The new shell is an 89 coupe and the old one is a 90 hatch, motor ran fine till i parked it in december.

I relocated the battery, so it could be a bad connection, but like i said it acts as if it will try, but i guess the voltage is to poor to fully turn it over. I will look it over in the morning.

a poor connection is likely, make SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD GROUND ALSO. i cant count how many relocated batteries ive seen where people dont even scrape the paint off the floor where they ground it.

when you have a bad power/ground connection it will make a click noise like its trying but since the electricity has nowhere to go/not enough power due to a weak link in the chain, it wont do anything. just click.

Im almost certain i have a good ground as i grounded it to the strut tower, in turn, grounds to the strut, then to the rear subframe, ect ect. But i will check it again, iirc a ground should have an ohm rating of under 5, so ill break out the multimeter and check.

does it even make an attempt to trigger the starter?
even with poor grounding I have seen cars atleast attempt to start.
was the shell an automatic?

the car has always been a manual, i thought it was the Neutral switch as well. It sounds as if the starter is sliding into the flywheel but not spinning or sliding in all the way, just kinda a clink noise then nothing. I can turn tho motor by hand so i know its not locked up, and the starter is freshly rebuilt, so at stumped, im about to check voltage on everything.

my money is still on a power supply problem

loose connection, bad connection, something from the battery, to the starter.

Well the starter is not actually trying to engage, its my injectors and relays making all the noise. I re ran all the power cables, soldiered all connections, sanded down my grounding points, and still the issue remains. Im gonna pull the starter one more time and make sure it works again using the signal wire. Im highly pissed at this moment, if u guys need anything, such as pics or videos to help me diagnose the problem let me know and i will get you what u need.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! Noticed that the grounding strap was grounded to the valve cover!(Thanks to a friend who tried to help) so i removed it from the painted surface and grounded it to the head. and bam turned over fine! :dblthumb:

But on another note, the ECU wont turn on, nor will the fuel pump or the ignition work, so i have some more issues.

Thanks Joe you were right!
