For sure. I can't even count how many Altimas and 240's that I've done this to!ELEMENT692121 wrote:timing chain tensioners and or guides .. there prone to failure on the ka .. when you hear a rattle on a ka thats usually the culprit ..
ok i downloaded Engine Mechanical (EM). do i have to replace or revove the guard??verSat1l3 wrote:pull the valve cover and top timing chain cover. Remove the guards(not the tensioner) on the top timing chain. Throw them away. Replace the covers and drink beer.
If you need more specifics than that, download the manual which is linked to in my sig.
then it has to be timing chain guidenissanpunkrock wrote:if its the timing chain guide it would do it all the time when you rev the motor and let off the gas the slack will slap the guild and you would here it
if it just does it when you start then quites sounds like its an oil pressure issuemy se-r did that and still does and it has 230000 miles started about 150000but may not be bad idea to check your oil pressure
my 2 cent
Just remove the guards and throw them away(upper chain ONLY), but you might consider replacing the tensioner. If you wanna go all out crazy you can replace the lower timing cover which would include the oil pump, but that'll be at least double the work. There's a lot of stuff to remove to go that route... I'd just do the guards and tensioner if you can get away with it.abdow wrote:ok i downloaded Engine Mechanical (EM). do i have to replace or revove the guard??
