Hi all,

My name is Phill, I am a 20 year old student at staffs uni and am studying car design. For my final project I have decided to design a mid engined sports car for Infiniti and I was wondering if I could maybe have some of your input?

I was wondering if you could tell me specific aspects of Infinitis that you guys like. Or if you want to get philosophical maybe what the brand means to you? This would be really really helpful to me!

Thanks :)

I love getting philosophical and I love talking about Nissan/Infiniti. So I guess this thread is for me!

Infiniti to me has always been the closest thing to a Japanese BMW. That was much more true in the past, as they've shifted more toward a Mercedes-Benz/Lexus approach lately. Styling-wise, however, they're definitely more aggressive than subtle. While I'm partial to early Infiniti's very clean, stately approach, I'm still generally a fan of modern Infiniti's more flowing, organic look. I like the Q50 quite a lot, and most of the FX50/QX70, and most of the EX37/QX40. They have generally muscular lines, clean fascias, and tasteful details. I love the way the Q50's lines flow from headlights through the strong fenders, along the beltline, and back to the clean but distinctive tail lights. Most automakers these days are also going for "flowing" designs with lots of curves and creases, but most others are just a mess of unrelated and often contradictory lines. Infiniti's designs seem a lot more coherent and whole, and the Q50 is a great example.

What I DO NOT like are their attempt at forcing a new equivalent to the Hoffmeister Kink with the stupid s-curve C-pillar, nor the goofy body bulge in the beltline below the side mirrors a-la Essence Concept.

There aren't a lot of modern cars I like very much, styling/design-wise--especially those with curves. I'm more of a Cadillac Art and Science kind of guy in general. But I still tend to like Infinitis for the most part.

Infinitis are weird blobs with irritatingly distracting curves and creases that begin nowhere and go nowhere, like some drunk idiot decided to finger paint with sheet metal.

At least they're still good drivers.

To be honest, I like Infiniti from the mid 2000s better. They seemed a lot more together with more classic lines.

So you are a fan of the more muscular sort of design of the qx45 then? Thanks :)

This will always be a very attractive car to me. It may not have been as daring as the CTS (which pushed automotive design forward but aged quickly) or as sleek as the 3-series (which started to look a bit dull after a while), but it was sporty and classy all at once:
