OK... let's help prospective V owners.

We all know that there is a shortage of SL models of both transmission styles.

Someone mentioning internet departments gave me an idea: We know just about ANY Nissan dealer will sell over the internet... maybe you can't get them to deliver it, but if you can find one close enough to you you can drive/Amtrak/fly to the car you want, and drive it home.

I have found, in Washington:

1.8 SL, Magnetic Gray, Charcoal, Manual, ABS package @ George Gee Nissan in Pasco, WA

1.8SL, Super Black, Charcoal, Manual, ABS package @ O'Brien Nissan in Walla Walla, WA

1.8SL, Super Black, Beige, Manual, Convenience package @ Joe Hall Nissan in Lewiston, ID (just over the WA/ID border)

Anyone else with time on their hands that wants to look up SLs and configurations for their state, please do so and post here.

I'm bored, so I'll do Oregon too:

1.8SL, Super Black, Charcoal, Manual, ABS package @ Tonkin Nissan in Wilsonville, OR

Wow, whole lot of nothing in Oregon.

Oklahoma:

4-sp AT Fresh Powder, beige interior, mats, splash guard - Stuart Nissan, Enid. (S. of Wichita, KS, north of OKC)CVT Super Black, charcoal interior, mats, splash guard - Jackie Cooper Nissan - Tulsa4-sp AT Blue Onyx, beige interior, mats, Nelson Nissan - Broken Arrow (Tulsa)4-sp AT Brilliant Silver, charcoal interior, splash guards - Ardmore, OK (North of the Texas line.)

That's it. Four Versas in the whole state: one CVT and three ATs, four colors.

I live near the shore in Jersey. Within a 100 radius, there are 74 Nissan dealers. The 74 dealers have a total of 19 Versas. If you want to see them, use 08050 as the zip code on the Nissan site. Be prepared to spend an hour going through all the dealers. It would be much easier if they would just let you search for all the cars in the area, instead of doing it dealer by dealer.

Using that information, here are the SL models in New Jersey:

1.8SL, Fresh Powder, Charcoal, Manual, Convenience Package, Sansone Route 66 Nissan in Neptune, NJ

That's it... One SL in all of New Jersey. Though there was one dealership that had 4 S's on its lot...

I skipped all of the dealerships in New York, Pennsylvania, or Delaware that fell within that search radius.

Ok Geoffrey, I've looked at TN. I did a 100 mile search around Memphis, Nashville, and Chattanooga. Because TN is only 200 miles N-S and 400 E-W, there was some overlap and the search reached into MS, AR, KY, AL, GA, NC.

Out of 54 dealers listed, I found 18 S's and ONE SL.

My dealer hasn't had ANY V's for almost 2 months now.

Also, as I'm sure a lot of you know..... DON'T rely on what NissanUSA.com says for inventory ! Many dealers don't adjust their on-line inventory immediately when they sell a car. Some will wait until the deal is actually closed and the car delivered and some will wait until the end of the month when they report their sales to corporate. Seems like a few never make the adjustment.

Anybody think they might be holding back the V's letting the '07 Sentras and Altimas be the "new kid on the block" for a few weeks ??

There are actually a lot more Versas than that here, but people don't list them in their online inventory. I spent an hour or so calling around the other day and found a bunch.

Last week, with lots of time on my hands, I searched Kansas City, MO, Des Moines and Council Bluffs, IA, Omaha and Lincoln NE, Minneapolis, MN and Seattle, WA websites (I have two daughters in Seattle and thought maybe it'd be a good chance to visit them).

I didn't keep good track but I think I only found one or two SLs, that didn't fit my specs and perhaps 6-8 Ss in the whole bunch. So I ordered from an Omaha dealer for 2-4 months out.

Are Vs delivered to all dealers at the same time or are they scattered according to other deliveries? Anybody know?

It appears that most Nissan dealers in OK are loaded with 4 speeds. I found two CVTs, however. Here is the kicker: there is a CVT equipped exactly like ours, but stickered at $1000 more. Then there is the CVT equipped with the XM and Bluetooth and it is stickered at $2000 more than the Versa we bought in September.

Excuse my cynicism, but do you supposed they are stickered so high to move the 4-sp ATs?

I bought the first Versa I could, after driving it for a day I really wanted the SL, oh well too late. I was thinking about returning the one to the dealership but decided not to. If anyone out there wants one...

Here is a place that sounded nice:

Concordville Nissan452 Wilmington W ChesterConcordville, PA 19331

I told them that I had purchased the S and wanted the SL they offered to order one and have it within a couple days. The SL with sunroof for $18000 and even offered a loaner until the car came in. I initially tried calling them but none of the sales guy would answer the phone. The sales guys name is Tony.

A trick I've used is typing "major city + Nissan" (i.e., Atlanta Nissan or Pittsburgh Nissan) into Google, which pulls up the NissanUSA website page for the respective city and then do a vehicle search for the Versa in each of the city's dealership online inventories. For whatever reason there as of this past weekend there seemed to be a lot of Versa SLs listed in the inventories of Columbus Ohio Nissan dealers. I also came across quite a few decked out Versa SLs with Convenience Package, upgraded audio, sunroof, etc.
