I'm having a problem with the antenna retraction mechanism on my '95 J30. I assume there is a limit switch which is supposed to stop the antenna motor when the wand is completely down, but mine continues to run for several seconds after the antenna is seated, with a sound that is distressingly like gears being stripped. This just started happening. I pulled the interior panel in the trunk, to try and find a switch or an adjustment of some kind, but I don't see any. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this kind of thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the problem that i had was the opposite, mine didnt go down all the way, so i took it apart to see what the problem was, in my case it was only cleaning and greasing the gear, i would suggest you open it and clean it to start, there is a chance however that you will need to change the assembly "ebay for about 30$ +- ", but always start with the cheapest option.......... to take the antenna out you have to first find a suitable tool "i used a pair of needle nose plyers" to unscrew the metal ring that has two groves that holds the antenna mast to the quarter panel "visible when you look at the antenna mast", then partially remove the passanger side trunk lining to access the assembly, unplug the harness "one is an electric plug, the other is a drain of some sort", then remove the unscrew the bolt that holds the antenna in place, and it is out...... now find the screws that will open apart the assembly "all visible, nothing hidden", and take it apart, be carfull not to lose any part, clean and grease the internal components, and make sure that the antenna mast is in place, then put it back and test it, i hope this helps.... good luck

If it's the drive rack on the shaft stripped (very likely), replacement masts are on eBay for $12. As always, fuzzycats.com has the repair instructions:http://www.fuzzycats.com/docs/...d.pdf
