if you are savvy in a/c, you can check the pressures with a Manifold gauge set. By the pressures, you can tell if its a low charge or the compressor. The "tissing" sound, im guessing you mean when you first kick on the a/c? if it is then its definately not the compressor. Shop is gonna rape you on price.
Hell if you cant get it, i have a r134 machine and around your area. ill help a fellow 240 driver for cheap
