I have a 1997 240sx that I would like to turbo the only problem is that my engine has 220k miles on it. What would be the first step for me to be able to do this?. I have always wanted to turbo my KA because I dont want to be like everyone else and get an SR(Even do I still would not mind this engine because it seems like it also has alot of potential and it sounds great). The only thing is, from what I have research it would be cheaper to get an SR right now than to turbo my KA. I also wanted to do all the work my self to save money but it seems to be to hard. Can you help me out?

PS: I did a five speed swap on it.

220K is alot of miles for any motor. If you're going to turbo the KA, I would just go ahead and rebuild it. It's WAY over the hill at that point and a rebuild will be necessary sooner or later.

As far as the SR being cheaper, that's very debatable. Most of the used SRs that are imported are "supposed" to have low miles, but how do you know for sure? You don't. They only have like a 30day warranty so what happens if it blows after 3 months? Then you're stuck with another motor you have to rebuild.

Just sayin. And as far as difficulty, turbo'ing the KA will be more difficult. Neither are for n00bs (but can be done) but basically all the SR swap is is taking out the old and putting in the new if you have someone do your wiring harness. The ka-t route will be more difficult but it's nothing impossible. Both have very detailed info and write-ups/how-to that can be found easily on this site. Just search around and find out what's best for you.

Sorry man very new to the 240 scene. Around where I stay at every and there cousins have SR swaps but no turbo KA. Dont get me wrong I dont dislike the SR I just prefer to Turbo my KA and keep it USDM YEAH!!! I also thought about LS but thats too deep for my pockets.

I know man thats a lot of miles and its smoking already. Someone around here is chargin me 4300 for a complete s14 SR swap with AC. Is that cheaper than rebuilding and turbuing the KA.

As far as your question regarding the swap:

That's too much. 4K installed, even with A/C is pushing it. And they better be doing a PERFECT job.

As far as rebuilding and turbo'ing the KA, if you go with with QUALITY parts, no junk, and do it by yourself, that's gonna be around the same price. And that is not installed. That's with you doing all the work.

But as I said, you're always taking a gamble when you drop in a motor that has an unknown history.
