Satellite radio is an option which, I would guess, was never installed in your car. Radios (like the Bose system in our Mos) that are satellite ready do not have a satellite receiver built in. That has to be added.
Besides the relatively high price Nissan commands to add satellite to your car, portable or plug and play satellite receivers offer a number of advantages. My kids and I all use Sirius Stiletto receivers in our cars. Though they are not as neat (ie they require a dock and an extra cable or two) and aren't controlled through the normal stereo controls, they can be played and recorded with in your house and even portably. Sirius is also way more flexible with their subscription policies (like the lifetime subscription I have) with portable receivers as opposed to those built into your car.
One other thing - the price of the high end Sirius receivers has come down considerably in recent months. The Stiletto S2 which sold for $330 when introduced just 2 years ago, can now be found for $99 if you shop around. And no, I don't work for Sirius - I just believe in the product and service.
