hello, my 240 is makin some weird noises..almost like a grinding noise when i change gears or even slow down, but when the car is in neutral or the clutch is @ the floor, no sound is heard..i heard it was the clutch, some friends think it may be a loose bearing in the flywheel..i was hopin i could get some help from here, maybe someone else had a similar problem..thanks!

maybe the throw out bearing, does it make noise when you release the clutch in neutral?

yea, it always makes the noise, if im rolling down the street at like 5mph, and i just put the gear from N to 1st, it makes the noise, its low in volume, but i can still hear the grind, someone mite have told me its the transmission, but i thnk its more the clutch, but not sure if its the clutch or the flywheel.

does the noise go away in 4th gear and is very faint in 5th? if so i would have to say your internal bearings in the trans is bad.

trans will need to be torn down and inspected. I suspect the noise is still there in third it is just very faint and can be covered up by abnormal tire wear generating more noise at higher speeds, heavy traffic around you, modified exhaust or intake,ect..

at the very least the bearings in the trans will need replacement. do all 4! dont just do the ones that make noise when you turn them by hand or you'll be going back in to replace those with in a week. you ned a press to remove them. if you dont have one you can tear it down check the gears and such for wear. then take the shafts to a shop and have them press the old off ond the new on. If a press is available to you. When you go to reinstall the knew bearings if you have an old deep frier you dont use any more put some gear oil in it heat it up and drop your new bearings in it. let them heat up for awhile when you go to reinstall them pull them from the pot and drop them on the shaft. heating them up helps them slide right into place due to heat expansion.
