Hello i really need your guys help. Heres my situation Last night we were coming back to my house and al of the sudden my engine started making this horrible clunking noise( i what i believe it to be cyl. #1). so i pulled it into the median and a friend took me up to a close gastation and i bought some oil, put it in nothing happend still clunking (but it sounded like it got a little fainter). so i start her up and try to make to the gastation thats about 300 yards away. And i make a good 20 feet and the engine shuts off. So we push my car the rest of the way to the gastation. theirs a guy who says hes a mechanic up there so he took a look at it and said that my car jumped time... im not sure but just wanted to get everyones opinions and experiences on something like this. just would like to find out before i get down and do anything to the engine.

not sure by your description if thats what actually happened. was there any indication prior to the clunk that something may be going bad. like excessive chain rattle, lifter type noise on start up anything out of the ordinary? I wouldnt just condem it just yet. pull all the drive belts of and try to start it. if it has jumped time the damage is already done so I wouldnt worry about hurting it anymore. the reason i say take the belts off is to be sure it wasent an accesory making the noise and locking up. if the belts are tight enough the engine will be loaded down and eventually stall.

The only indication prior to clunk is when i was coming down from speed my transmission drop gears fast and i slowd down fast. right when in let off the gas it drop a gear then few seconds later it went down another gear (automatic transmission)

also my friend thought that it sounded like my valve might have been hiting my piston. not sure but i do know it was definitly coming from around cyl. #1.
