Im looking at a 1980 datsun 510. Nice car but needs work, it only as 60k on the z20 motor. But the Z20 is old and needs to go, I dont know what to do, a KA24det or a Ca18det? I have alot of chevy motors too, maybe a chevy 350 or maybe a LS1?? Please someone help me

You'd be putting a lot of time effort and money into a car that's somewhat difficult to find some of the unique parts for and frankly wouldn't be worth that much when you're done. Which is basically the same scenario I face with my 79 810 2dr. That's why I just kept it stock and use it as a daily driver. Watching the classifieds, and eBay etc., I have noticed that the obscure Datsuns like my 810 or the late 510 that you mention as well as others from that mid to late 70/early to mid 80s era just don't generate the interest like the Zs, the 510s, and the Roadsters of the 60s and early 70s.

If you're going to swap....put a Nissan motor in it.

I'd go KA.

I can't say for sure...but it might be a lot easier to drop in due to the similarities shared by the two motors.
