hey what up guys im a newbie here. But im kinda handy. My 93 j30 was running great for a while now its not wanting to shift. Its an auto .dont know if they made a stick.

fluids are right on.Its never been beat on.

My first thought was some vacuum / regulator?

I read that thing that J's needed to be warmed up so they shift smooth but i always warm my car up live in NH work on a mt.

Thanx

Fresh fluid and clean filter in the transmission ??If the screen/filter get's clogged you will starve the transmission.

Welcome to NICO!!!

Can you describe your shifting problem in a little more detail. Is the trouble your experiencing between the 1-2 shift? 2-3 shift?

Is it intermittent? Does it eventually go away?

thanks for the welcome all.

It doesnt like to shift to second or third!! :o :'( poor girl

Its been doin it for about a week.At first it was only not shifting to fourth.Which didnt seem like it was to rough on it i just stayed in town so the max rpm was 6k or so. When i was on the bypass or whatever 50-60 mph.

It was shifting pretty sweet before this. like 3k max rpm to shift to 2nd then usually right into third then fourth. If i were to guess i would say its prob way overdue on maint.I changed the plugs when i got it they didnt need changing but i figured wtf once i allready bought em. I got the stuff to do an oil change.Only been in my car for a month.Im bad lol. How difficults the atf/filter swap anybody know?If i was smart i could do them both at once atf oil?i think prob pretty cheap parts too i imagine?

Oh yeah if i know my motor will nissan parts work ?

One more question. My motor has a slight rap or a tappin.I swear it doesnt do it at higher rpms. just idle mostly. Is this common?

Thanks for the help fellas!!

Do the revs on the tach climb and it doesn't shift?

the atf filter is pretty easy if you can get the J on Jackstands.Drain the fluid by taking out the drain plug.About 3 1/2 to 4 quarts will come out. The rest stays in the transmission.then take off the pan bolts and drop the pan.The filter will be right there.I suggest you get the filter, gasket and a new crush ring for Joe at everythinginfiniti.com before you start , and obviously enough transmission fluid to top it back off when done.Be sure and get all the old clutch material out of the pan and clean it up good before putting it back on.

You might need a new rev sensor for the transmission. They go with age.

mine shifts late when it reains heavily.... After I got a fluid change.

I havent had a chance to take it somewhere to get it diagnosed because everytime I get a chance...it's not acting up...which is the normal for most issues...lol

15 years is extermely long life for a RE4R01A transmission...................was it previously replaced? Was it serviced [fluid replaced] every 30k/3 years as suggested in manual?

Probably just tired and near end of life.
