97 auto 58k all stock motor. I took my car to Nissan last week for a service engine light and was informed that I needed a new MAF. I bought one from the parts forum here and replaced my old one. When I reset the ECU, I got the MAF code and the light came back on immediately. Symptoms are rough idle, rpm drop when I shift into drive (car may die), car is in limp mode -2500rpm. Nissan also told me that I needed to clean my injectors which got done professionally. What do I do next?

double check all the wiring from the MAF to the ecu, it if is setting a MAF code then there may be a wiring issue there such as an open or a voltage drop

Hello,

That happened to me before and the dealership said that they needed to reset it. I mean the car is running in safe mode. If it is in safe mode, the car will idle to about 2500 rpm and die or run off. Go to the service and tell them that your care is in safe mode and they need to reset it. I don't think you can do it by just resetting the ecu. There are many reasons it can go in safe mode.

I hope that helps, at least call them and ask.James

I know on my old 91, when i put a different mafs in it cleared the problem right up. My 93 that I have now also threw mafs code earlier this year. I tried a few different mafs and nothing worked. It ended up being a bad ECU.

my guess is that the ecu ground for the maf has shorted out some how.we accidentaly fried the ecu ground for the maf on my friends 90 (with my old 93 ka in it) so i simply got the wiring diagram and found the maf ground and wired it to common ground, only problem with this is that when the ecu is on the maf is on but it turns on and off with the ecu as it was as per nissans wiring so it doesnt really hurt anything.so either cough up cash for a new ecu or bypass the ecu ground for a common ground on the ecu.
