hey guys i just bought my first 200sx se-r its a 95 and has a g20 motor. ive been hearing noises for the past 2 days and cant figure it out. i dont really know or even see ppl with se-r's around so i cant ask anyone. everytime i drive there is this loud winding sound and im thinking its my alternator. is that bad? or is there anything that would make that sound? its not supercharged. and when im not rolling it doesnt sound.i was also wondering if we had break sensors? and wut do they sound like?thank you

Does the sound increase with revs? Is it at certain speeds? Only when the car is cold/warm?

yes it increases as rpms get higher and drop when rpms get lower...it does it at all speeds and the temp of car doesnt matter. i drove for 1 1/2 hours today straight and thats all i herd.

Take a look at the belt first. Look for any obvious wear and tear, maybe use some grease on it and see if the noise dies down.

Are you having electrical issues? I don't see the alternator being on the fritz unless the battery is low or the lights/stereo/etc fade in and out.

it sounds like it might be a throwout bearing

Throwout bearing as in the clutch throwout bearing? That'd have some effects (noise, grinding) when shifting.

Again, any electrical issues? That'd be a sure sign of alternator failure.

It is either the bearings in the alternator or even the water pump. If its the water pump, good luck with that replacement ordeal. It is a very tight fit and messy to say the least. I bet money on the water pump, just because I just had to change one on my mom's 1.6 sentra and it sounded just as you described.

I'm getting similar sounds from my car. A "mechanic" I know says that it's my brakes, but I'm not too sure about that. The sound started only on the left side, but now it comes from both sides. Another thing I've noticed, the sound will happen only after 10 mph or so. If I happen to be going over the 10 mph and put the car in neutral, the sound goes away.

O_o

I'm scared it might be something transmission related...

no mine is over 10mph...and my friend said it might be my brakes too because his friends civic was doing the same and he changed the brakes and it went away....i took it to a friends shop and they said it could be my wheel bearing....i hope so. and i hope its nothing transmission related either...im not changing my brakes until i get word on these calipers i might get for FREE!!! then imma go to the autocross track. woot woot...first i gotta fix the noise.

ok im taking a wild guess its my wheel bearing and i found a good priced oem one...ok another noise question...the loud sparking sound, sounding from my wheel is my break sensor right? it sounds all the time but stops everytime i tap the breaks.i checked it and there is this metal peice that seems like it would sound if the pads got too worn out and i bent it back a little and the noise stopped.

well if you are only hearing the sounds when the car is moving, scratch my ideas. I thought you were talking about car idling or reving. A groaning sound coming from outside the car when moving could be wheel bearing, it sounds like a knobby tire.

its like a constant winding noise only when my cars moving...if im at a stop(tires not spinning) theres no noise. so its gotta be the bearing...could it be the axle?its like a high pitched winding sound...it doesnt increase or decrease. its not my breaks cause i just changed them today.

I have a 94 Sentra LE and I'm looking for a decent, sort of cheap engine swap.-Front wheel drive and automatic =/ rather it be stick just to get an SR20DET.

Any suggestions?

No need to tack this onto this thread, but check the stickies up top and you'll find that a SR20DE/VE/DET swap isn't far out of reach, though you'll need a transmission swap as well.

Other than that you're out of luck.

Welcome to NICO!

ok that winding noise? again with the stupid winding noise....never figured it out yet been trying things but im taking it to some shop saturday...trying to figure it out by then....wut pump on the passengers side would make a winding noise only 20mph and over. and it tends to sound louder when i put the car in neutral while going 20mph or more.and a new noise that i cant really describe coming from my front passengers side suspension...its like a grumbling noise....like the tire wants to fall off....checked the axle and it was fine...anything else? wheel bearing? would it do that? and it does it even worse everytime i let off the throttle.i hate noises

Loose lugnuts or a wheel bearing for the grind.

If the winding doesn't happen while stopped, it has to be a wheel bearing or something similar.
