a search came up with MAF problems but my car has been running fine up to this point...I'm pretty sure it's an overheating problem that has now left my car in limp mode. Car idles fine...no connections has popped off...

I'm just simply stuck in limp mode....I tried disconnecting the battery but no luck...(someone tole me to wait longer so that 's what I'm doing now).

I'm desparate because I'm literally 100 miles from home and no mechanic in site....and I won't have internet accessed in about half an hour..

Help me get out of limp mode please....and I'm not a chic but I still need help..get me home someone!!

usually you get into limp mode because the MAFS is either disconnected or not working at all, thats when it only goes to ~2.5k rpms.

you may try to disconnect the battery for couple of mins, but it'll still find the MAFS to be bad and go into limp mode, check the maf itself inside see if its dirty.

love the sarcasm...thanks for the help Jimmy

anyway....one of the code is 12 so I guess it is the maf....other codes are 55 and 34(this morning)...

Guess I'm getting a rental till I can find a replacement maf.....Anyone know where I can source a maf? Dealler wants $4XX for 89-90 Maf (special order though).

thanks again...stuck in middle of nowhere...but they have internet

12 = Air Flow Meter Circuit. So, yes, that's the MAFS.34 = Detonation Sensor Circuit. Your engine knocked.55 = All Clear. You probably pulled the codes 12 and 34 and reset the ECU.

You should be able to pull a MAFS from a junkyard special for a LOT less than the dealer wants to charge.

http://www.car-part.com

It's a junkyard database...probably lists hundreds of them for less than $25 shipped. Find a cheap one with a warranty, call the yard, and barter the price...get them to include free overnight shipping. Easy.

I got the car back. There seems to be a Maf problem but it's not the Maf itself but actually the wiring to the Maf. I haven't traced down exactly where in the wiring yet but it acts up on a hot day. Strange.

Oh well ...going to work on it tomorow...thanks guys

First...Thanks for the help everyone...You too Jimmy

Only recently had I noticed water spots in the engine bay around the MAF and Cam sensor. The problem was from a pin point upper radiator hose leak which was too small to notice at first but has gotten bigger. So on hot days, I assume it was shooting fluid everywhere in and around the maf and cam sensor causing havoc...not fun when I'm in the middle of nowhere....x-my fingers this will be the final solution to my problem.

Anyway, I went to Autozone and found and equivalent upper r.hose for around $9. These are all the number that came of the tag on the hose...hopefully one or the combination of them is the part number in case you ever need it...

thanks everyone....
